You're Everything That I'm Not - Translator
  10:32pm
JakeGould:

@coelacanth: The way I describe it is I like the framework WFMU has created but to say I like each thing hung in that framework is nutty.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm

I used to LOVE Translator (still do). Been meaning to play some of their music for a couple of weeks and didn't get around to it. I've discovered lead singer Steve Barton has some solo material I've overlooked. Maybe next week.

...'didn't see that coming!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm

I never realized that before, coelacanth, but Rickie really does sound like Melanie on this one at least.

northguineahills:

I forgot to ask for some her video footage, but now she's out of the country, so, now I have to wait until she gets back after new years. She said it was mostly a percussive affair w/ Laurie on her electric violin and interjecting w/ her monologues.
Avatar 11:26pm
northguineahills:

I've told Kurt this before, but a decade ago, I was at my friends' electro-acoustic improv party at the bar, and Laurie sat next to me. We had a normal conversation and about music etc. I was surprised I didn't squee, as just a few weeks beforehand, I found her 'United States Live" box set on vinyl at a second hand shop for relatively cheap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
Irene Trudel:

That's a great story, ngh! I've met Laurie a few times and am always surprised at how normal and unassuming she is. Very sweet too.
  11:47pm
JakeGould:

From all I hear, Laurie Anderson is still a true NYC-artist. Meaning she knows who she is, but she is approachable and a general human to those she interacts with. A friend has a pic of Lou Reed a few years before he passed away where he was waiting to pick up Chinese take-out on his own from a local place… I mean he could have had that delivered… But there he is. I think that is what I miss in modern NYC; the new celebs in the neighborhoods truly live in Ivory/glass towers. Very little pragmatism in 2015 NYC celeb culture.

Happy New Year everybody!
