"...and online and beyond..." LOVE that! Hi DJ jj and Frowthful.

  12:07am
P-90:

Maybe we can hear some Crimson tonight, since these guys just talked them up so hard? (And I never bother DJs with twee requests from the comments board. Almost never.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am
coelacanth:

that was a Frowthful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am
jj.:

hi all. i actually know fuckall about crimson! on the long list of bands to dig into a bit, but probably not enough to spin any tonight. sorry!
Avatar 12:18am
bobdoesthings:

Ah! I know this tune from that record of cover songs that Vetiver did.. would this be the original? I'm ignorant.. never looked into it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19am
jj.:

yup, the original!
Avatar 12:19am
bobdoesthings:

cool.. its gorgeous!
Avatar 12:20am
Alejandroool:

so Bernie won the "virtual tie"?
Avatar 12:21am
Alejandroool:

jj: I also have never been too Crimson-aware, but I have been hearing more of them lately...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am
coelacanth:

that's okay Jesse.
... this is not a request but a query -any Love tonight for Paul Kantner and Signe Anderson?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am
jj.:

yep, got some airplane cued up for a later set, for sure.
  12:22am
MONEYBAG$:

Virtual tie, like Max Headroom?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am
coelacanth:

cool! you're Awesome jj!

...i'm really liking what i've heard of Cian Nugent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am
coelacanth:

$$ did Max wear a virtual tie?
Avatar 12:25am
Alejandroool:

@MB$ haha yes - he won't be able to actually physically wear the tie
  12:26am
MONEYBAG$:

He wore regular AND bow ties, depending on his level of enthusiasm
Avatar 12:26am
Alejandroool:

and possibly different depending on the era?
  12:27am
MONEYBAG$:

what a great idea it was to put a Bob Ross episode on while listening
  12:29am
KP:

Hey, Jesse
Avatar 12:29am
bobdoesthings:

@moneybags - i hope on silent... I sometimes look for nature programs or space educational videos with nice long shots and put it on mute as just a random video thing happening while i listen and roam about my apartment..
Avatar 12:30am
Alejandroool:

ahh this Roya - so nice.
  12:34am
P-90:

No Worries at all, jj, I sorta assumed a musically righteous dude like you would be Crimson-conversant. If you're not, you may have some serious fun ahead of you getting Crimquainted. Meanwhile, everything you've played has been A+...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am
Bronwyn Bishop:

Lovin the show Jesse!
  12:39am
JakeGould:

@bobdoesthings: FWIW, most art films are not intended to be watched in reverence like a normal, narrative movie. Tons of art films are intended to just be moving “wallpaper” that creates an environment. Once I realized that, I appreciated truly silent visuals far more.
  12:40am
Gakl:

Seriously...not familiar with king crimson?
  12:42am
MONEYBAG$:

when I was a toddler I recall the cover of the first king crimson album scaring the shit out of me. thanks dad
Avatar 12:44am
bobdoesthings:

@jake - ah. are you suggesting gravitating towards artsy silent-film era stuff..? I was just saying that I like to find stuff to throw up on the screen as just visuals I occosionally glance at.. but I could see expanding into older films and silent-movie era stuff in the same sensibility. I recently realized that I could get the youtube as a Roku channel.. so the sky is the limits as far as putting visual junk on my screen for fun.am i rambling? im drunk. i should go to bed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am
Bronwyn Bishop:

This is my second favorite Fleetwood Mac song! (Favorite: Never Going Back Again)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am
Bronwyn Bishop:

Yay Animal Collective!
  12:47am
MONEYBAG$:

is the conclusion here that AC is heavily influenced by Tusk?
  12:48am
JakeGould:

@bobdoesthings: Well, I am not talking specifically about silent movies as opposed to “talkies” but I am talking about when you go to a gallery and see a movie or video loop playing. Some people say stuff like that is “dumb” because “they could do it” but the video is part of the piece and not really meant to be stared at.

FWIW, putting on a nature show with the sound down is a great way to create a mood. So hey! Or even silent movies like old Buster Keaton stuff where the visuals are so strong. And you are drunk! So hey! Say hi to the elephants for me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am
jj.:

wasn't that drawing conclusion necessarily, just thought they fit well together, but it might be the case!
  12:49am
JakeGould:

@bobdoesthings: A good movie with the sound down suggestion? The first “Benji” film from 1974. Just lots of bright sunlit shots of a dog walking all over the place.
Avatar 12:51am
Alejandroool:

hah nice. We had a party one time and put Dolce Vita on silent as background, interesting visual delights / conversation piece
  12:53am
MONEYBAG$:

I used to have a benji record that was ONLY the sound
  12:58am
Clay Pigeon:

I have the Benji picture disc!
Avatar 12:59am
bobdoesthings:

@jake- hah.. just found the full 'benji' on youtube.. yeah saving this for future muted play.
  1:00am
JakeGould:

Benji is a great film! If you just want to watch a nice looking dog walking around a nice 1970s small town, you can’t go wrong. One day I want to shout in a bar, “Okay folks! We’re watching Benji! No sound! No complaints! You’re welcome!
  1:02am
JakeGould:

Another film to watch with no sound but just for visuals, “Rumble Fish.”
  1:02am
JakeGould:

@ClayPigeon and @MONEYBAG$ Nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06am
coelacanth:

Jake that's a great idea! i wonder if i can make that happen in "my" bar?
..we used to have substantial parties in one era of my life. we had the music originate from my bedroom but have 2 more speakers in the living room where the tv would be showing video of soul train.
shit those was fun times.
  1:07am
MONEYBAG$:

I listened to that record a million times and have absolutely no memory of the plot, whatever it was
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08am
coelacanth:

...they were poor quality tapes of 60s-70s reruns from the early days of music television , but with the sound off they did the job.
  1:08am
JakeGould:

@MONEYBAG$: Two kids who Benji like get kidnapped in a small town and Benji helps rescue them. It’s like a Scooby Doo plot. But it’s not a film about plot, it’s all about the dogs.
  1:09am
JakeGould:

@coelacanth: Nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am

wait! pause it till i get my stash out!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am

traditionally, dave hill signing off is the signal to pull out your stash!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17am
coelacanth:

g'night bob

aw that's it on the reggae? oh well i'm inspired to pull out my DD comp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18am
coelacanth:

jj i've been remiss. i rarely smoke but i know it's good for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23am
coelacanth:

during the day i'm trying to get stuff done, and herb never helps; and at night i'm apprehensive because i've had some experiences of being wired all night after smoking. maybe i need the correct Rx for specific times of day, but i don't know enough about it.
  1:24am
MONEYBAG$:

I thought Dave Wyndorf was the stash signal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26am
jj.:

whatever signal calls to you.
  1:36am
rw:

Hello! It's a little sad but no time for stash here. Plenty of computer work going on though.

JJ did I hear you say you're going out to the High Desert? My daughter got her truck stuck in the sand out there on Saturday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37am
coelacanth:

ha! i just gargled that to see if it really is "assophone"!

hi rw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am
coelacanth:

jj if you do look into KC (which is not necessary for you to keep doing good radio!) the album "islands" may be more your style than most or all others. it's mellower and a little "jazzy".
  1:43am
MONEYBAG$:

going to sleep with the radio on. please don't play any songs with prominent vocals by brent mydland
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43am

I've always been grateful to Donovan for taking all that acid so I didn't have to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56am
coelacanth:

looks like a win-win. i don't think he thinks of it as taking one for the team!
  2:01am
b k:

I will be very happy to hear songs with Brent Myland vocals. And am loving the Kanter tribute.
  2:39am
Gakl:

Best jam ever, double-J. Whale sounds from a trumpet and...
  2:40am
Gakl:

Or is that actually a whale...now that the other tack has faded out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am
jj.:

There were no trumpets. All humpback!
  2:42am
Gakl:

I head them, diving under the water in HI. They totally do sound like that...also a bit like a trumpet. Sounds louder and more reverb, if anything.
  2:45am
Gakl:

Rad transition...
  2:47am
P-90:

The Cetacean Station of the Nation! All humpback, all the time!
  2:49am
Gakl:

Humpbacks are my peeps. All our slow boats to and from China are killin' the whale internet (Whaleternet? WAN: Whale Access Network? But I digress.) by overwhelming the volume of their songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53am
jj.:

this new release goes into the detail about how whale songs have been changing since humans started recording them, it even has some transcriptions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59am
coelacanth:

Thanks Jesse! ciao everyone.
