Black Sabbath convention? wow.

this is kind of funny and related. I was having a hard time coming up with a basic idea for an interactive project in my InDesign class, and literally Ronnie James Dio came to me in a dream last night. So he's going to be the topic of my project.

Hairy Eyeball on tap! Oh, man, I bet that's great. It showed up in bottles at local Trader Joe's for a bargain, relatively speaking.

I know Marin Brewing well! Used to head over the bridge on a weekend for a burger and brew. Their double IPA is swell. I'm walking distance from Fieldwork (subtle stuff, sometimes boring, sometimes pleasant), a Sierra Nevada tasting room, and Rare Barrel (sours). But I almost never get out anymore, because I'm bland.

Dean, where do you live? East Bay? I just got turned onto sour beers and chili beers last year. Russian River Brewing has Consecration, beer aged in red wine barrels, amazing! Then green chili and habanero beers fascinate me.

Chris from DC:

You want Ballast Point Indra Kunindra if that's your thing, Doc. Very complex and pretty spicy.
  12:48pm
Dean:

There's a traditional liquor store in town, Ledger's, that stocks a good supply of beer, including once a few bottles of Born Yesterday. Yeah, good stuff.

Doc Rembrandt, I'm in Berkeley. I know Russian River well, of course, although I've never been to the brewpub. I have, however, tapped a few Pliny the Youngers over the years. Many years ago, c.1990, I penned an article about the Temecula Valley wine region. At the time one of the oldest wineries was the family-operated Cilurzo. I took a tour led by mom and pop Cilurzo, who lamented that their teenage son had rebelled. He was somewhere in the neighborhood...brewing beer! He is Vinnie Cilurzo, Jr., founder of Russian River and one-man sour beer promoter. Ledger's gets a weekly supply of Pliny the Elder, Consecration, Damnation, and sundry other RR brews.
Avatar 12:50pm

I have tried numerous sour brews, but the only one I can drink consistently is Bell's Oarsman. A real taste treat if you are in Minneapolis is 612's Shere Khan - ale brewed with curry spices. Delicious.

Pre-kids I'd head to Triple Rock for their Firkin Festival, sit there all afternoon sampling funky beers, watch the sun drop from the roof garden, and amble/stumble onto a bus to head home. Them's was the days. I remember a tribute to Vinnie Jr., Vindication, a nice sour.

Love the Uinta beers I've had, but I sure would like to get my hands again on a Boulevard Rye on Rye. Luscious.
