@annie: a cuica is a friction drum. So the sound is not made by striking the surface, but by parts rubbing against each other sort of like a fiddle bow.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:31am Gary:

Ha ha ... I remember when I moved from SF to MPLS and the moment when I totally realized it was another culture: At the checkout of a supermarket, the bag boy (an actual bag boy!) asked: "Would you like me to take this out to your car?" Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am Lane Gray:

Good morning, Michael. Thinking about a baking steel, especially after most of my pitas failed to poof
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:31am Brian in UK:

@Lane I was given one for Christmas, not christened it yet. The trick is not to boil just keep the liquid foaming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Lane Gray:

Liquid?
Avatar 🥁 11:32am βrian:

We saw a wild Turkey in our yard the day after Thanksgiving.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:33am Gary:

Sweet set
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:33am Brian in UK:

Liquid = water + coffee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Lane Gray:

Oh, you were on the ibrik. Right. Just to the edge of boil. Let cool a bit. Repeat. Serve. My wife spent 14 years married to a Jordanian. My stepson approves of both my coffee and my hummus
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Lane Gray:

Indeed. But my mind had shifted to the baking steel
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:35am Brian in UK:

Lane do you put Sesame oil in the hummus?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:35am Uncle Michael:

Lane, I've made naan but not pita on my steel.
Avatar 🥁 11:35am βrian:

Do you go so far as to peel the chick peas? That always struck me as a bit much. Lots of tahini?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am Lane Gray:

Much tahini, as Mrs. Gray loves the sumsum. Use canned chickpeas
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:39am listener james from westwood:

@βrian: One friend of mine peels them, but not sure how widespread it is. She likely wouldn't burn the time if it didn't make a difference. But if it's not for a recipe contest, I say blend'em as is.

Off to walk the dawg, drive safely Lane.

Doug, words are useless my friend. Look after yourself.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:40am Uncle Michael:

Schtoinking trumps twerking unless it's Trump twerking.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:41am Brian in UK:

Doug typo on Michal. Standards old boy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Doug Schulkind:

This Little Ann number produced by Detroit genius Dave Hamilton.
Avatar 🥁 11:42am βrian:

What about Kraftwerking?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Lane Gray:

No added sesame oil beyond what's in the tahini. Whiz the tahini for a good minute before adding anything else.
  11:42am Jeff g.:

I have a belated comment: holding out for Marat/Sade/Trump. Thank you.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:42am Uncle Michael:

Avatar 🥁 11:44am βrian:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Doug Schulkind:

Sade will reprise "Smooth Operator" in a duet with Trump at the show's close?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Doug Schulkind:

Better to shtoink than to symposiate, I always say.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:48am Uncle Michael:
