Ken From Hyde Park:

Just in case I drop off the WFMU message boards and no one hears from me again, let me document the sequence of events:
Sunday - Bought bundle of red lettuce, removed the twist tie and put into refrigerator.
Monday - Put a portion of the lettuce into plastic container for lunch. Didn't eat it. Put into refrigerator in the evening.
Tuesday - Eating lettuce now. I don't detect listeria or other life-threatening problems. Wish me luck!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
Greg from ZONE 5:

Godspeed, Ken!
  12:33pm
Cliff (moving to Prague!):

I'm sure it's fine Ken from HP, a little listeria's good for the immune system anyway right?

Ken, i drank a quart of cherry juice last week. the top was popped already when i opened it. i tried a little. it wasn't tangy so i drank about a cup. i didn't die so the next day i drank about 2 cups...& so on.
'shit's expensive! - and i don't think the lid could've been loose for too long. (though i don't know what i'm basing that on.)

I think it's so they can put video streams on the playlist and not have them restart when you post a comment. Personally I like it.

John Allen made me buy both David Nance LPs and I regret nothing and neither should any of you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm
coelacanth:

this pop-up comment thing is more logical than the more-steps-than-necessary old way...but i think the pop-up should be much bigger, so a long-ish comment will fit; and so scrolling wont be necessary to make pre-post edits.
(just the opinion of a pariah)

Summer and Michael:

This David Nance stuff is amazing. Great show, Thomas!
  1:45pm
Cliff (moving to Prague!):

coelacanth, I think there's some tradeoffs to keep in mind, we don't really want a lot of essays getting posted on the comments board, but we also don't want to turn this into TwitterYouTubeFaceBork either.
Avatar 1:49pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Hey βrian, I'm in the midst of improving the no-Javascript behavior.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm
coelacanth:

Cliff, you think having a small pop-up window is intended to curb long posts? it's not, and it wouldn't; and i doubt anyone at fmu wants to do that - as it's not a problem.
...and, to be honest, i don't understand the twit er-etc. reference.
Avatar 1:52pm
thedunkel:

Thomas Storck EXTRAVAGANZA at Monty Hall??
  1:56pm
Cliff (moving to Prague!):

I just meant, I think they're trying to balance speed & length of posting, without having any one commenter dominating (I've been called out on this before, I'm easily excitable sometimes :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm
Michael 98145:

nothing wrong with that, Cliff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm
coelacanth:

i understand; but i think your post @1:17 was on target, and the primary reason for change. there may be compromises- of course; but i doubt Ken or anyone is concerned about long comments. and this change cannot have any effect on someone dominating the board.
  2:09pm
Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Yeah, I generally wait 2 minutes or so before posting something new (exceptions being People Like Us and Shut Up Weirdo, those shows have more of a rapid-fire-zinger thing going on)
  2:13pm
Cliff (moving to Prague!):

Station Mashgiach Ken actually had to tell me one time during his show to slow down on the posting speed :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm
coelacanth:

don't get me wrong - long, pointless, self-indulgent posts irk me as much as the next guy - because i have to scroll past them! there are a few commenters that i simply never read the posts of.
...i still don't think it's a problem; and they'd be lesser human beings if they wanted to reign-in "Lyle", for instants.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm
coelacanth:

hahaha! i'd like to see the comment board in which Ken told you that!
Avatar 2:18pm

Avatar 2:22pm
Thomas:

I think I learned of Low Jack from listening to Jack Mello's show
Avatar 2:22pm
Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@βrian 1:20: It's now a bit better with JS turned off.
@coelacanth 1:32: Scrolling now less of an issue for pre-post edits.

Historical record on the slow-it-down debate: For what it's worth, an original design goal of mine years ago (before it was as dynamic as it is now) was to stall the listener's return to the playlist page, because your comment wasn't going to be there quickly enough for you to see if you weren't a bit impeded.
A second reason for the extra steps was to impede a certain class of spam bots, and is to this day one of the reasons that these boards don't get overrun with spam.

Thanks for your feedback!

Long, pointless, self-indulgent posts... That reminds me of a tour back in 1972...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm
Michael 98145:

Yes, but you have to use separate bath tubs
  2:36pm
ChomskyViagraBot:

We will bring evidence in favor of the following thesis: an important property of these three types of EC suffices to account for the ultimate standard that determines the accuracy of any proposed Viagra. For any transformation which is sufficiently diversified in application to be of any interest, the fundamental error of regarding functional notions as categorial is not quite equivalent to the traditional practice of Viagrians. Furthermore, the earlier discussion of deviance is unspecified with respect to an abstract underlying Viagra. For one thing, the theory of syntactic features developed earlier appears to correlate rather closely with problems of phonemic and morphological Viagra. Thus a case of semigrammaticalness of a different sort cannot be arbitrary in the levels of acceptability from fairly high (eg (99a)) to virtual Viagra (eg (98d)).
Avatar 2:36pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm

not usually, but still annoying!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm
JP from KC:

Yeah, should've known to leave that bit alone. Nobody can compete with the numerous and oddly specific Chomskybots.
  2:41pm
Cliff (moving to Prague!):

If only somebody at the station could look up the IP addresses of the posters or something, then they could stop all that Chomskybot garbage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
JP from KC:

Aww. I like Chomskybot! He's superfluous, yet endearing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm
coelacanth:

...Cliff, i'm still wondering if the troll that started using my moniker a month or 2 ago got banned, via ip address. (i don't even know that Ken knew that part, but i doubt it was only me that got trolled.)
