Hello Sem, the UK has cast off and is somewhere close to the Azores on its way to the US. Due to the fact that everyone wants a window seat the UK is in danger of tipping over completely. Ensuring that Malcolm Gladwell's much overused expression is utilised.

Chris and Tina famously had some kind of falling out with Adrian during those Tom Tom Club sessions.
They're all to professional to discuss it in public, but apparently some of Adrian's favorite guitar parts, that he has been led to believe were intrinsic to some of the songs, wound up being removed completely from the final mix, done in his absence. And erased, so he couldn't even keep personal copies of what he'd done.

@Brian: That leaves music and food. OK by me!

So this is the disco remix of “Space Oddity?” Where is the disco?

Re: Space Oddity
Viewing from my phone -- was this version that 1980 (?) version that appeared on TV show or some such?

Yes Joe, we are trying to name the new chooks but they are all so similar. Twinkle, Sparkle & Ruby so far.

This is a disco-remix?

That Frank Chickens track was a big FMU hit when it first came out.

When does the disco part of the disco mix kick in?
Avatar 11:47am
Joe McG:

@Mike and Brian: I'm not sure if it's the same one as the TV show, but it is 1980 and clearly re-recorded. As for being a disco record, I'm not sure adding a big thudding kickdrum in a dirgey fashion constitutes disco! :)

Disco to go.

A not quite "Disco Oddity." All due respect to D.B.

Oh man, I haven't even thought about this Schilling track in forever.

@Parq: The 12" is a "Super 12" with FOUR versions! About three too many.

Well DB was never Mr Chuckles, a morose character but there was always some humour lurking as a saving grace.

@tadpoles: You bet! @Bryan: What could be more 80s than Erasure? Except for maybe Simple Minds.

Or Tears for Fears, which Sharon loved so much in that earlier song....

Where's Frankie?

Listener Bryan (the Professor):

@joe I got into this groove this week listening to a bunch of YMO and Hosono records and I ended up downloading the first couple OMD records and true confessions they sounded so awesome I almost cried.

Or the oft forgotten Thomas Dolby

Great show, Joe. So what's this Independence thing like?

Independence is hot dog!

Hmm. Whereas on one hand the 1980s were when things began to go off the rails Commercially in many respects - it was also a time when the PopCharts & the Experimental Edge had some dalliance w/ each other...That was quite bearable...

Great show, Joe! Enjoy the 4th and thanks for the mem'ries!

I was in college in the 80s and am now working on another degree. So the singles set was great for working on a paper. Thanks!
