Just FYI Bombay Talkie is a James Ivory satire about Bollywood, and not Bollywood itself, although Bollywood does have a long history of pretty clear-eyed / satirical self-referentiality. But I think everyone involved, including composers Shankar & Jaikishan, were winking at a different audience than usual ...

I'd call that just a regular, very welcome friendsplain! Thanks for filling me in a little bit, I've always been curious about it but I'm hopelessly unschooled on Indian cinema so I don't even know where to start with analyzing a soundtrack. Though a basic google search probably would have helped me sound like I knew at least a little bit what I'm talking about....

HAVE to see Bombay Talkie now, though.
