I've always felt the album Somethin' Else betters Kind of Blue in a big way. Once heard an early pressing of the LP on a top-notch system in San Diego. Bliss.

Hi, geezerette. Yeah, given the option to play one or the other, I'll almost always pick the Adderly. Or put it this way: I've played Somethin' Else probably two or three times a year for several years running. Kind of Blue, not so much. I have a copy of the latter on vinyl, a late issue, probably from the '80s, but two CDs of SE, one a Mobile Fidelity gold, and a Japanese vinyl pressing.

Saw Danny Gatton back in the day, great performer!
As far as Kind of Blue versus Somethin' Else, it's hard to be objective any more about Kind Of Blues, kind of like Beatles records, heard it so many times, lost the desire to play "So What" any time. And, Somethin' Else is a fabulous album...Have both in many vinyl versions...I'm more likely to pull out Cannonball's album as well.

Other than Sun Blindness Music, which I heard once at DMG (must have been 2001), hence the purchase, I've heard only the live album, Sabotage, and that several times, because we used to play it more or less daily at the record store where I worked at the time of its release. WFMU has been the only other source of my exposure to Cale and VU.

The story is supposed to be that Cohen sent Cale tons of versus, not knowing how he wanted to put it together, Cale made some sense out of it.

I heard a bit where Tom Scholz was talking. Wife was watching it in the next room while I did homework :( Super interesting. I'll have to wait for the DVD. Ben Harper's intensity bores me but look forward to hear what he says in the show. I also heard David Gilmour's reaction when he first heard Dark Side played back, so neat.

In fact, the bread pudding can be stellar. It's based on a local restaurant's mainstay dessert, but frankly mine is better. I don't worry about using blood oranges, for instance, and I use challah.
