Hello. I like Elmhurst. Any idea if Chao Thai is still good? I haven't been lately.

Hey Ike! Funny--did I mention Chao Thai a long long time ago?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm
Alex In Illinois:

Elmhurst Illinois? I have not been to Chao Thai, but I just looked it up and it is still there. The part of Elmhurst I have spent the most time in is the Hospital and the Toyota dealer. It is a very good hospital, though I have never stayed overnight.

Not sure, Jason. I just bring it up because you mentioned Elmhurst, and that used to be quite possibly the best Thai food in Queens. I've gone to Khao Kang recently, but not Chao. I was disappointed when Chao Too closed, but at least the original is still there, last I checked.

Ok so I just looked up Pleng Nohra on YT to see if I could find it, but instead I found this which just blew my mind clean off. At first I thought he was making a traditional fishing hole, but no...can't wait to try this. To hell with fish anyway: www.youtube.com...

Thanks Jason. Yeah, I used to spend a lot of time on Chowhound too, and I might have seen you around there at one point or another. "Downhill alert" has crept into my personal jargon as well.

Some actually placed hope in Drumpf of breaking the Duhbya-Obama cycle of Regime Change foreign policy. Every indication is he'll go for Oligarchy & Nationalism - & his cabinet picks are all crazy RightWing. It's difficult of course to gauge how much his statements are mere Impulse - &/or Unreality TV Media Manipulation - but every indication there is we can't expect a terribly great amount of international humanitarianism in his Military policy...How much cooperation he gets from the Pentagon is another x factor...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
Alex In Illinois:

@ifny: Well, I have heard about protests, but I didn't think they had become riots.

For example, did you see any footage of the South Koreans protesting the corruption of their president? Singing or chanting in unison, standing in orderly rows, holding candles and flashlights. I think at some points, they just stood together in silence--a calm and serious protest.
Avatar 5:48pm
ifny:

It bears repeating, this is a great fucking show. And besides the wonderful efforts of our host, part of the reason I feel this way is the comment section.
Avatar 5:53pm
ifny:

@Alex news doesn't always travel far. For example, there was a lot of stuff going during the Olympics and Occupy. And riots is often a characterisation by the State anyway, right? It has a certain set of connotations. It is also one tactic among many. And it's often ephemeral (which has specific limitations and strengths). On a related note, sometimes people, especially in Indigeneous circles, talk about being 'land defenders' rather than 'protestors' -- it's a different praxis, though sometimes objectives may be similar/complementary.
