Awesome! I wish my parents had cool records for me to listen to when I was growing up :) I was a late bloomer!

my mom had lots of stuff like jerry lee, cash, ray Charles, bo diddley, pee wee king, slim Whitman, WILLIE MABON! and lots more. when the other kids were out playing sports, I'd be locked in my bedroom with records stacked all around me.

we would have days at school where we could bring records to play. I took this awesome lp of chet atkins and jerry reed. kids laughed at me.

i never realized my dad's musical influence until i was much older. he didn't have any records, but he went around singing what i thought were the most ridiculous songs. i thought he was just making up silly shit to be funny, singing about roly poly, pistol packin' mama, smoke that cigarette and something about 16 tons. i had no idea.

Julea:

Sounds like some cool folks :)

way better than i deserve. they're very active in helping lots of people in the community. i never really thought about it until i was older. it's just what they've always done. homeless, incarcerated, disabled, they are always helping someone.

Lee Hazlewood always makes me feel better.
Avatar 7:43pm
dave dowda:

it's just unbelievable that hazlewood isn't a household word, but I'm also sort of glad it's not. it would suck to see hazlewood t-shirts at wal mart.

Julea:

I hear ya. He is amazing. His music makes me cry, it's so good.
Avatar 7:45pm
Julea:

But like many of these other guys and gals, it makes him more special to those of us who do know and appreciate him.
Avatar 7:50pm
dave dowda:

definitely. i first became aware of him through listening to art bell's "coast to coast" conspiracy and paranormal radio show. they used "some velvet morning" frequently as bumper music and i just had to figure out who the hell was singing it.
Avatar 7:52pm
Julea:

I first got into him when I started getting into Nancy Sinatra's records. And then Sanford Clark- the Sanford stuff really blew me away.
Avatar 7:54pm
dave dowda:

yep. that was what got me more into him.
