I have a friend, who's Japanese gf was detained at LAX. She had a student visa (grad school), but after they went through her phone, they found she had been working (at a NYC gallery), So, she had to buy a ticket back to Japan and told she couldn't return for 5 years. We already got an immigration lawyer on the case.

(My wife is going her second immigration interview process right now since we got married, and she has a lawyer).

Well, my wife, when she was in grad school, made sure she didn't work, as she saved up a lot of money. I'm a citizen, came to NYC for grad school w/ over $30K, and that evaporated quickly. I was Teaching, working, and djing, and it still wasn't enough.

The visa semantics today are insane.

Irene Trudell did a well-informed & beautiful tribute to Larry Coryell - maybe focussing more on early work. My take after that is he makes an important comparison/contrast to McLaughlin - also technically stunning, but perhaps straighter to the feeling, w/ broad inspirations across genres (reportedly seeing Hendrix specifically turned him around)...

If we wanted to be Yogis & take *decades* - then *maybe* we'd be able to work the control board of our own brains/minds. Not having taken that option - I enjoy moderate alkyhol to relax & be in the moment. & conversely too much caffeine to not fall into the abyss of the moment & to become active. That's more of an addiction, really. LSD (long ago) just stopped teaching me, or being enjoyable.

I can try to answer that, @fred. Basically, only those shows taking place at WFMU (and D:O Radio will move to FMU for our marathon shows) will have live, on-air co-hosts. Remote shows unable to make the trek will have "virtual co-hosts" on the playlists, but not on air.

@Jeff: I just found that album on Spotify.

Warren Defever wanted to do a Detroit booty bass record back in 2000. I talked to him after a show, and he said he couldn't find a record label to release it. The indie and booty bass labels were so confused, but the booty bass artists were on board, and he did record it.

I characterize Cali as a series of Theme Parks - esp. SoCal. Or - a movie set w/out Direction. Some people love FL (Iggy does) - but I imagine it's easy to get lost there.
