Aww. Well, as the pop culture turn of phrases goes, "I learned it from watch you," Doug! Beyond proud for the radio brethren. Another year down and it's starts all again tomorrow, I am sure. Happy 30th Anniversary to you sir!
I know you're just kidding about JM in the AM. That show, and it's beloved host Nachum Segal, were a huge part of WFMU, even if it wasn't integrated into the freeform life of the station.

I am just kidding, even occasionally listened to it (have orthodox Jewish family...). The shows at the end with Ken were touching.
I was more referring to the sort of panic at the station that fund raising was doomed without their generally good sized contribution, while this year did turn out to be the best I remember in a few years.
One of my longest-time listeners is a gentleman who was a die-hard JM in the AM fan who just never turned off the radio at 9am on Friday mornings. (I followed Nachum Segal on Fridays for 20+ years.) This fellow has a huge heart and even huger ears and he represents to me the best of WFMU. Always being willing to break out of your comfort zone to explore new things.
Somebody stop me before I say the word pledge. D'OH!
Howdy! And yes, folks can still pledge. When I first began in radio in Detroit I was an engineer for Morning Edition... I dreamed of underwriters often. I threw headphones due to too much spit from Carl Kastle's clicking dentures. Oh those were the days.
That's a nice story, Doug. I used to hear the sliver of JM in the AM right before the transition to freeform on the stream, and I didn't realize for a long time that it was an entire legit show being broadcast on the airwaves.
There used to be a whole bunch of listeners who thought the last strains of JM in the AM's closing Friday theme were actually the beginning of my intro! Hiya, melinda!
I have never played this on air northguineahills! Glad you could be in ear shot of the inaugural listen. I have had it since it was released, but Springsteen's line on Street Hassle is what made me pull it off the shelf.
