@Bill: The pic on your playlists page was used for a music festival at work a few years ago. We peons had some fun saying it symbolized the effort to stop time while in a precarious position, as people in the street don't give a fuck

hey P-90! how ya been? - hopefully also not extinct. (that's guitar pick-up, no?)

A "Highball" can be either a cocktail or a glass or neither, depending on your context and your anatomy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
coelacanth∅:

Stanley that's feasible. it was probably my parents' own code -like they always used that type of glass for a particular drink.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm

okay, i cheated and it looks like P-90's correct. the drink is the simplest mixed drink, ie: liquor with one non-alcoholic beverage added.

doctorjazz:

I'll take a stab at Latin American horn use...In the 30s and 40s, pop was dominated by big bands, both in Amareican Music and Latin American music, and there was lots of cross over, with Latin Big bands getting play and popularity in the US (to the point that Ricky Ricardo, Lucy's husband, became a TV celebrity). Pop tastes diverged, though, Louis Jordan streamlined jazz, and Bill Haley and others replaced the horns with guitar/bass/drums, which was more DIY, edgier, easier to manage and less expensive to tour with. Latin Music continued on to Salsa and other dance music, which remained horn and big band centric (economics probably played a roll; after the war, travelling with a big band in the US became much more expensive, the Union got more pay for players, and very few big bands survived). The fact that horn based music remained pop/dance music in Latin America kept that kind ot band front and center.
(made this all up, but seems logical).
