@G again: seriously it's such an interesting connection that exists between dub and exotica: both are background/atmosphere music but also make for active listening (with moments that jump out and grab you when you might have zoned out), transportive and categorically psychedelic, fascinated with the potential of the studio as an instrument

Corbucci really seems like he was a total communist. the bankers and real estate owners are always the worst people in his movies. have you ever seem Companeros, te movie of his where Jack Palance plays a pot smoking mercenary who is in love with his falcon? it's not the best Corbucci, but it's amazing

TCM would show Navajo Joe periodically and i would always annoy the gf for a day or so afterwards by repeating Nava-jo Joe Nava-jo Joe for days.

i also love Nicoletta Machiavelli, who is amazing in that movie and then when she got typecast basically said well, screw it if you guys aren't giving me better parts to play, i'm not acting anymore.

Recordings that make me think of studio-as-instrument, albeit where the studio is not designed for recording: Fritz Hauser's Solodrumming, which was recorded in an atrium encased in glass, and Stuart Dempster's recordings in a cistern in Washington state.

that reminds me of Arthur Lyman's preferred spot, the Kaiser aluminum half-dome (tho that was definitely designed to play music)

also that guy from Hawkwind who did an album of himself playing flute in the great pyramid (and that other guy who did the exact same thing, the jazz flautist)

Yes! Nik Turner. I like them both in theory, but find them both sort of dull in practice. Tho they do have their moments, and the concept goes a long way towards lending a mystic aura

I read Fanfare nowadays with regularity. Reviews often comment on how the recording venue improves or detracts from the experience of the recording. For example, the Barbican is evidently a notoriously bad venue for sound, and reviewers will note where recording sound quality suffers when it is the site of the performance.
