I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Happy 2018 to you, Henry!!! Yes! This is how we bring new year with healthy spirit despite crappy stuff going on out there!

listener james from westwood:

Good afternoon, Mayuko and all, and happy 2018! I've already been to the gym, but if I need to stretch or bend in time, I'll let these singers lead the way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm

Happy new year Mayuko, Everyone! 今年もよろしく!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm

I'm exhausted just looking at that chart. Hello, and good afternoon, Mayuko, the Vertiginous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm

Nice YMO track. Booking for Ryuichi Sakamoto's March show in Paris is supposed to open tomorrow. I hope I can get a ticket

P-90:

Happy 2018 @DJ Mayuko and V-Players!
Are you broadcasting from the Play Vertigo Studio in Brooklyn today?
  12:08pm
Jeff g.:

Hello, @Mayuko, and the vertiginous.

I should resolve this year to see at least half as many shows as @fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
fred:

I vaguely remember reading that the father of a member of Daft Punk was involved in the Yamasuki record
Avatar 12:12pm
Mayuko:

Happy new year, northguineahills! Hallos P-90, yes, from this tiny Play Vertigo Studio, staying away from dirty snowy sidewalk, thank god.
Great to have you here, Jeff G! Happy 2018!!!
Avatar 12:13pm
Mayuko:

@fred yeah! that's what I read too. one of two Yamasuki people is dad of Daft Punk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
fred:

@Jeff G: it's not that hard, I've been slowing down as I get older. By now I have to include dance shows to hit 100 a year
Avatar 12:16pm

Faust cover!

Hey! I guess I missed the morning exercise routine. Glad to be here though. Hope everyone is doing well!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
listener james from westwood:

I've already lost a pound this year, so I'm calling my physical routine since last Monday a win.
Avatar 12:19pm
Mayuko:

Yes! I love this Faust song and this cover is cool too!!!
  12:21pm
rw:

100 shows a year?? At this point I’d feel good about 100 shows a decade.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
fred:

Seeing that the cover was from 1980 made me look at the original's release date. I didn't realize that song was so old

All aboard the HMS Vertigo. Cast off Mister Mate. It will be a long voyage, many months until we see land again. Where is the ship's cat? Ah how did it get up there in the crows nest.

This Beau Wanzer track was great
Avatar 12:43pm
Mayuko:

@fred yeah! it was so hard to pick one track! will probably play other tracks from that album in my future shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
fred:

This (Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe) could be the soundtrack to a Pipilotti Rist video
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
Brian in UK:

I guess living in the city makes going to concerts (gigs) more accessible. When I worked in London I was out much more frequently, but that was many years ago before children. (BC).
I wonder what is the etymology of GIG. Is it short for giggle?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Fall swag arrived today. I can express my affection for turtles openly now.
Avatar 12:54pm
Mayuko:

@fred or some footage videos of deep sea creatures or something.
Avatar 12:55pm
Mayuko:

People use GIG for work related stuff too, right? It is a funny word. So it's "gig" for the people who perform?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm
Webhamster Henry:

I like how mechanical it's sounding today.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm
Brian in UK:

Hello melinda.

If it is on the radio how do they know....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm
listener james from westwood:

Bits of your past and your experience of it are one of the reasons I tune in! Always love hearing DJs' lives amid the music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm
listener james from westwood:

It is a very good sky over NY and NJ for opening up one's chest. But maybe from indoors. So damn cold!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
Brian in UK:

Was it Yamasuki that was difficult to understand. The Cocteau Twins made up their own language? No in this case though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm
listener james from westwood:

HOW have I never heard this utterly charming Cocteaus cover?
Avatar 1:13pm
northguineahills:

I'm echoing james' sentiment, it's insane I've never heard that Cocteau Twins!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
paul b:

Hey we did calisthenics in the morning too when I was in elementary school in Manomet Massachusetts. Of course that was a while back now. The past is, as they say, a foreign country.
  1:13pm
Rickwaukee:

Sadly, I cannot hear this song without thinking of a parody of it I once heard called 'Walking 'round in Women's Underwear'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm
Brian in UK:

james it was made for the fan club Christmas record.
Avatar 1:14pm
Mayuko:

Happy new year, melinda, and tmoyo!!! So glad to have two here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm
listener james from westwood:

@Brian: Ah, that would explain it!

@Mayuko: Loving this bit of 80s music right here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm
Brian in UK:

james Fake news. It was the issue of all the Beatles Christmas fan club records just now that made me write that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
fred:

Is that Omni track really from last year? It sounded like a reissue
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
listener james from westwood:

LOL, it sounded truthy, as Stephen Colbert might have put it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm
Brian in UK:

I will go and do a penance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm

This Triple Fire track is pretty great
Avatar 1:22pm

In the mornings on the way to school, I'd see school kids in the school yard doing calisthenics, as well workers at their factory lots doing the same (The first 1.5 years there I had to wake up really early to get to school.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
Brian in UK:

I saw A Hard Days Night over Christmas possibly for the first time, the thing that struck me most was their seeming lack of cynicism.

Many children nowadays are taken to skool in cars. I used to walk about 1 1/2 miles to Primary skool. No big deal but it kept me healthy. Then lots of sport and running around at break.

Mayuko great mix of old and new.
Avatar 1:31pm

Rickwaukee, I went to Milwaukee for the first time in my ilfe on the new year day! Though only several hours! That's how I started my 2018.
Avatar 1:32pm

Thanks Brian!

And yeah that Omni sounds like reissue but I think they're touring now. Found them in the WFMU library's new bin and I don't know much about them yet myself.

This is a dance party song! from Okinawa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm

The Okinawa shuffle-beat is unmistakable.

I love that Seijin Noborikawa & Rinsho Kadekaru song! (of course, Okinawa...)
I hope the Omni tour will stop nearby

Hey Mayuko! Just dug up these two articles on the feral cat colony in Sunset Park. They dumped part of the colony near me! “In recent weeks, cages were placed throughout the complex baited with food to catch the felines, which were then released in Leif Ericson Park in Bay Ridge and Marine Park, according to Weinles.”
