Niiiiiice.

Someone's gotta sample that "Who is Bix Beiderbecke" for the intro of a song.

el Garee Rayo le Bee~:

Having lived in the pop culture time that Masekela "crossed" to the US, that journey was an amazing one in retrospect. I didn't know who he was as a kid looking at the "top 40". We love what he did then and now.

Will check out Ken's suggestions for the retro. But life goes on...

$mall ¢hange:

crazy that Grazing in the Grass was a #1 hit. pretty wild
  12:48am
el Garee Rayo le Bee~:

"Grazing" was an opportunity of the 60's dj culture of the time to break out. Yes, heard it and loved it but was of a narrowscape of free music really around. We just didn't have the bandwidth as now. A program director I worked with said there were only about 25 names that were around then. That's kinda right. Ken knows this too. There just was a "subculture" of listeners for other, more interesting musical pop and related 'beauty'. A great time to be around. But now is good too!

what was it like in the days before the comments section? were you out there playing great shit just hoping that someone was listening?
i remember the handful of nights i spent at my college radio station in the late 90s with my buddy who had a show and he used to beg anyone who could hear his voice to call in and request something (sun 3-6am show on boston so small listener base)
  1:44am
$mall ¢hange:

I mean either ppl listen or they don't haha. Ppl do listen tho. and the archives. but the comments board is a nice addition for ppl to interact. and slightly more classy then youtube commenters :P
