Just a bit of Fall to start us off tonight. I'm no expert on the bamd, but I thought I'd string together a few of their choones together.

MES!

Sam Segal:

Welcome, @NGH! I'm sure many on FMU are more qualified to do a full-on MES tribute, but I've got a few faves I thought I'd air out.

melinda:

Hi all! No need for expertise, that's what I say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm
Sam Segal:

Thanks and hello, @Melinda! I do think of The Fall as one of the quintessential FMU bands for some reason.
Avatar 🥁 9:13pm
northguineahills:

TBH, I think I only have four Fall albums.
Avatar 9:16pm
Bobby Whirlwind:

Excuse me, are you qualified to play Fall records?

(kidding, please don't stop)

I'm off, will be back before midnight!
Avatar 9:20pm
Bobby Whirlwind:

Agreed they were on great form right up to the end

quinn:

guess i haven't listened on monday nights for awhile... did you say you're broadcasting from brooklyn? i thought you were in the midwest somewhere
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm
Sam Segal:

You heard correct, @quinn! I moved from Minneapolis to NYC in July. First time living outside of the Midwest in my whole consarn life!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm
Sam Segal:

Welcome to the Horse Show, @Bobby! Love some of the later Fall records when MES's delivery slows to a miserable drawl.
Avatar 9:28pm
quinn:

Wow! Welcome to the East Coast!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm
Sam Segal:

Thanks! I like it here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm
Sam Segal:

My whole life, people would say to me, "You seem like you're from the East Coast," and I would think, "That's just the Midwestern way of saying, 'You seem Jewish.'"

Missed the important schoolin’ in Fall music. But in class now for teacher’s choice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm
Sam Segal:

@SBP, you've just reminded me of when I was a summer camp counselor, and they let me run the "Music Appreciation" activity. I got to sit with a boombox and whatever music I wanted for children ages 8-15, and they had to listen to whatever I wanted to play. Most of them entertained themselves with cards during the Sun Ra unit, but some seemed at least a little bit engaged. Ah, self-indulgence!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm
Sam Segal:

play whatever music**
Avatar 9:56pm

Like to line them campers up now and see who remembers what...of the music and the day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm
melinda:

Sam are you liking it outside of the Midwest?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
Sam Segal:

Enjoying it immensely, @Melinda. Public transportation continues to be a major net positive addition to my life. Being surrounded by people when I'm out on the street is also very spiritually nutritious for me.

Ike:

Good evening! I'm also a fan of public transportation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
Sam Segal:

Evening, @Ike! Glad to have another public transportation head aboard the Horse Train tonight.

Awesome playlist tonight. Cheers. Now going to lie down again, the way I’ve been listening for the last month or further.

Harmless typo: Parmegiani, like the cheese.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm

Oh, thanks for the heads up, @Dean.
  11:45pm
Dean:

This set is marvelous. Reminds me of Bernard Fort's 12 Haikus.
Avatar 🥁 11:47pm

I had the honor to work w/ an analogue techno band, Socks and Sandals", to do a realization of Parmegiani's "La roue Ferris" at the Kitchen. We took samples from Henry's sounds from the De Gaulle airport, and field recordings one of the members of the band made in Burkina Faso w/ francophone backgrounds, as well as recordings of the Paris metro.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
Sam Segal:

Oh, man, that sounds way cool, @NGH. Does a recording exist anywhere?
Avatar 🥁 11:51pm
northguineahills:

Whoops, my bad, memory is slipping, the sound for the jingle before an announcement at De Gaulle was actually by Parmegiani, they replaced it in 2011 a few months before I got back there. I was pissed, it was the only thing about the airport I was looking forward to... (I hate that airport).
Avatar 🥁 11:52pm
northguineahills:

Yes, I have at least a cdr of it, but so far, only my car plays cdrs. I might have to find an output from my car stereo to my phone to record it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
Sam Segal:

Someday you ought to figure out how to upload that baby to the world wide web.
Avatar 🥁 11:54pm
northguineahills:

In order of airports I hate the most, Atlanta Hartsfield, Paris De Gaulle, Frankfurt...... (I actually like La Guardia)
Avatar 🥁 11:56pm
northguineahills:

Before I left NYC, I bought a bunch of Chinatown discmen, I hope one of them will play my cdrs. I've only tried one of them, and it was rather dodgy w/ the playing quality. Now, my car will play 20-year old cdrs that are scratched.
Avatar 11:57pm
Scraps:

Bernard Parmegiani is one of my favorite musique concrète composers. Dedans dehors is an awesome album; both the title track and “Pour en finir avec le pouvoir d'Orphée” are otherworldy. You can pick them up on the CD compilation just called Parmegiani (1992 2cd).

I've always liked Arve Henriksen (I was just reading about him earlier today) and dig anything from Rune Grammofon.
