I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

@Henry: Hangul is a fascinating script, though I don't know the language at all (I'm something of a unicode nerd)

Hello all :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
Webhamster Henry:

I did a project 25 years ago which involved using Hangul - and I love Korean food so I've seen a lot of menus - but I forgot it all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm

It was for an exhibit at the Taejon Science Expo '93, in the renamed Daejon Korea. jdpecon.com/expo/wftaejon1993.html

Mayuko:

As far as I could tell from the Japanese subtitle in the music video for that Korean song, my impression of the lyrics was like it was illustrating an everyday life and the world breaking apart a little by little, in a subtle way even without knowing - it was rather movie-like, with small sketches of family etc, I guess not surprising since Lang Lee is also a film maker.

This week I saw (yet another) great performance by the Nature Theater of Oklahoma. Since they're based in NY, I thought I'd give them praise here

About the yoroboshi mask www.google.com...
  12:32pm
rbrt:

I didn't know there is a "google arts and culture"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm
fred:

@Mayuko: Theirs are not typical theater performances though. This week's had a western setting with cowboys drinking, playing, fighting (with video game sound effects) while talking about depression, divorce, specism, and Thoreau. And that was only the first part
  12:34pm
rbrt:

really into these masks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm
fred:

"google arts and culture" sounds vaguely ominous to me
Also, that Harry Bertoia track is great
  12:38pm
rbrt:

yeah fred unfortunately I kind of don't like the sound of it either, but it is nicely done
Avatar 12:39pm

@Henry oh wow! are you allowed play his sound sculptures there or just to see?

@fred that description of the show sounds good to me!

Hey Mayuko, I’ll check it out later. Yeah, I was going to say that whatever I missed couldn’t have been more beautiful than this.
Avatar 1:33pm

@rbrt I thought it was funny too but when it happened it was not very funny, the record company couldn't even release it I think. Only officially came out in 21st century it seemed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
Brian in UK:

As a contrast to the Khmer Rouge LP title, this is the chorus from Smile by K'Naan.

(Smile) When you're struggllin' (Smile) When you're in jail
(Smile) When you dead broke (Smile) And the rent's due
(Smile) You ain't got friends now (Smile) And no one knows you
Never let 'em see you down, smile while you bleedin'

Raga is demanding without being consuming. Does that make sense?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm

Had to pipe up about that last one. Consumed w/ pleasure it was, Mayuko.
Avatar 1:49pm
Mayuko:

It's soon marathon time already, indeed! Speaking of raga, one of my co-hosts this year is scheduled to be the raga-fest master Bryce, though I'll see if that'll be confirmed. It'll be fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm

Yaaargh! The Olympics coverage on TV just showed a helmet-cam video of someone riding down the skeleton hill. It was fun trying to get a feeling of vertigo watching HD television.

Hi, @mauri, just in from the garden. Well, we adapted some of the old coureur-de-bois songs, paddling songs of the French explorers and traders who traveled west, west, and more west, wherever the waters went ( or came from.) Rugged bunch, like Vikings in a way, I guess.
