This is rockin'!
Avatar 7:14pm
glenn:

sweeping melts the ice, causing the rock to curl. the ice is also pebbled, not smooth. curling is much, much, much harder than it looks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
Gary:

It looks like the one sport that I might be good at, but I think that's an illusion. If it's hard, and it's a sport, I already know I'm not good at it
Avatar 7:15pm
hyde:

@Gary it's because the ice is pebbled. the sweeping mooshes (this is a technical term) down the pebbles which makes the rock go straighter/further.

We've just this week gotten our first real dose of winter weather this year, a few below freezing days here and there notwithstanding.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm
northguineahills:

They got a lot of heat, b/c the first few records they released in Sublimed Frequencies were unaccredited, (how do you ID random stuff recorded on the radio). After that they went above and beyond and tracked down 'anonymous' artists long forgotten in the middle of nowhere to make sure they got paid.

Most counties in FL are making it nearly impossible for medical mj dispensaries to open since they became legal in January. I just noticed a third opened in my town.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm
Gary:

How do they block them, NGH?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
northguineahills:

"x amount of miles from a school, church, park". Only allowed in areas designated as 'industrial' zones, etc. My county (Alachua), I've seen two w/in residential areas, w/in a few blocks of a public elementary school. So, at least we don't have 'think of the children (but not really)' syndrome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
Gary:

Ah, yes -- of course
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 8:17pm

Thanks, Gary. I usually listen to the archived stuff I miss at work.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
northguineahills:

The recreational mj vote only lost 51.9%-49.1%, so, the next vote it will probably go through.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
Rich in Washington:

We have a similar thing with recreational pot stores here in washingstoned. My immediate city allowed marijuana stores within city limits but the county, in their infinite wisdumb, found a way to block stores from selling outside city limits. How the hell does that work, you may ask?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
Gary:

Does that work in the same way as in FL?, I ask
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
Rich in Washington:

One store owner called BS and opened one right outside city limits. The county fined him something really ridiculous for every day he operated in defiance of the stupid county ordinance. He spent a bunch of money appealing, made a ton of money in sales, finally complied but ultimately reopened. The state might appeal that stupid county ban.
I must say, it's pretty weird to see weed stores in town, dudes with signs on sidewalks advertising them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
northguineahills:

my younger brothers are Republicans (socially liberal, but I'm trying to help them grow out the GOP), and they and their friends all are staunch supporters of legalizing mj.

Pretty much, Gary, I've seen articles in that in Tampa and Jacksonville, it's been nearly impossible to open dispensaries. Orlando and Miami have had better luck. They're mushrooming here.
Avatar 8:27pm
hyde:

lotta slowdown on that sort of thing in Mass. too, fwiw. we voted basically to decriminalize weed, but a lot of resistance on the town front for even medical dispensaries
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
northguineahills:

Damn, you weren't lying about this Lee Jung Hwa, it has an epicness of a Gainesbourg/Vannier track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
Gary:

... and then suddenly here are the vocals!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
Rich in Washington:

I don't know the ins and outs of the medical thing, but it seems like in my state, my immediate county found a way to ban dispensaries but couldn't ban stores, hence the city vs county thing. It's weird and I don't fully understand it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
northguineahills:

oh, god, in NY/NJ, the village/town vs township vs county vs state will be so byzantine that it will decades before anyone know what the fuck to do....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
northguineahills:

(i had to work w/ NY/NJ politicians when I worked for the Census Bureau, that part of my job was quite the headache.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
Rich in Washington:

What weighs heavily on my mind with the legalization of recreational pot, is what about that dude who middle class folks who smoked pot relied on to be their go-to guy for good ging. I mean, you'd have him over, maybe let him paw through your record collection and talk for a bit, so as not to queer the deal by being all business like - tell him you and the wife had a dinner date to eventually move him along, give him his money and send him along his way.
What's that guy doing now? Anybody ever think about that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
northguineahills:

I don't know, I went to college in FL w/ my NYC guy, so, we were already friends. Once he started making enough money doing studio recording, he quit as he got married. Then, magically, a dealer moved next door to me.

Now in FL, I know no one who has a connection, but my sister-in-law keeps me supplied through whomever she knows. (she and my bro live a few hours away)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
Rich in Washington:

I told my first ever 'bud tender' at a store that they should have a special place to sell for people of my age, like a back alley, from one car window to another, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm

Oh, man -- there was a famous bud tender here associated with the Poetry Project at St Mark's, but he passed away several years ago. Very nice guy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm
northguineahills:

Ok, I'm leaving work, I need to get garden supplies (que chinga, it's almost 9 and everywhere is closing). Thanks Gary! (I really should have left here 2 hours ago, but, I don't observe time except through the prism of which FMU dj is playing.)
  8:52pm

Hello! Was listening to the Lee Jung Hwa song on the way home and the singer reminded me of Kim Jung Mi. I think it may have been her singing on that track. Gary, you probably already know of her but if not you should look her up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm

Ah, man -- good luck finding the supplies, NGH, and apologies for the distraction!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm

RW! Yes, I won't be playing her tonight b/c I recently did a whole set of her -- super-love her. I wouldn't be surprised if the vocal was her -- we'll have to do some sleuthing
  9:00pm

Yeah, my friend Jean-Ha introduced me to Jung-Mi's music. All I've heard is the Now record. I'll look up your set. Would like to hear more. Making dinner now but will be listening! Thanks!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm
coelacanth∅:

maybe maybe not - i was cooking 'twas hard to hear.
...i was thinking, though of course we get a filtered if not manufactured depiction of Life in north korea; still, with what is believable, it's hard for me to imagine something like that electric eel track being created there.

scrolling up...@8.34 Rich, one thing's for certain - our government couldn't care less. visiting northern ca c.1999 the people told me how eureka came to be a shithole. the government didn't care that all these honest working cannabis sellers were living the theoretical normal family life, with 2.5 offspring, white pickit fences, mortgaged houses and leased vehicles. consequently 1/2 the town became a slum, fully equipped with meth labs.
whatever happens now with legalization would not happen if people working within the government weren't going to make bank.
