Hi David! I've been undergoing oral surgery today, but I'll catch up because... Tom Lehrer is my spirit animal.
Avatar 🚂 4:39pm

The Electric Company, not to be confused w/ Brad Laner's (also in the band Medicine) noisey electronic group.

I pretty much only watch The Electric Company in syndication (not sure if I remember the first two years when it was still current).

If you want to get him mad at you, you can play Georg Kreisler's rip-off of "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park" "Taubenvergiften im Park"

Speedy recovery, Henry! Yes, I just talked all about the Kreisler controversy in fact. I guess he really liked the song.

The jerusalem artichoke is native to the midwest of the US. The native americans spread it through much of North America. It was part of the Columbian Exchange, which is why it's popular in parts of Europe.
Avatar 5:42pm

Thirty years ago, I was really sad when I found out The Electric Company was cancelled years ago then. I assumed it was still on perpetually, it was so good... HOW could they let it be cancelled?? Etc
Avatar 5:43pm
Scraps deSelby:

Fargo North, Decoder!

sigh....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
David D:

Scraps: Yes, only six seasons in fact - but then years of repeats in New York at least. I didn't even know it had been cancelled at my young age.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
David D:

Kuba: Speaking of education from TV - anyhow, good night over there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
David D:

NGH: It has a weird marginal existence over here, actually. It can be made into schnapps and the like, not sure if a lot of people cook with them.
Avatar 🚂 5:51pm
northguineahills:

I think they rebooted the electric company about a decade ago. Never saw that one and have no idea if it's still on.
Avatar 5:57pm
Scraps deSelby:

I was of an age between the boomers and gen x, the birth trough that grew up in the seventies. So I was gifted with the first Sesama Street (I was five) and the first Electric Company; and I watched Scoolhouse Rock the first time on Saturday mornings.
Avatar 5:58pm
Scraps deSelby:

Sesama Street!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm
David D:

Yes, it was Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, and then Electric Company, followed by Zoom (I think) - at least on WNET.
Avatar 🚂 6:02pm
northguineahills:

I missed this Eno/Hopkins/Abrahams until now. Quite nice!
Avatar 6:06pm
Scraps deSelby:

Didn’t like Zoom — it talked down to me, I felt. ;-)

The seventies generation’s Mickey Mouse Club.
Avatar 🚂 6:07pm
northguineahills:

I thought it was around until the early 80s (Electric Company) until I read an article about the history of the show in the late 90s.
Avatar 🚂 6:08pm
northguineahills:

I have no idea what Zoom is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm

Wow, haven't heard this Thomas Brinkmann, and I have ton of his stuff....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm

NGH: It's all atomic colors, or something. Antimony Yellow caught my eye, so to speak.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 6:33pm
Webhamster Henry:

ZOOM was like the Micky Mouse Club, CTW style. It was at its best with its ubbi-dubbi weather reports.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm
David D:

Henry: Yes, I also liked the way they sang the Zip Code.
Avatar 6:45pm
Scraps deSelby:

Argh, I can still hear that 0, 2 1, 3 4! Even though I didn’t watch it much. At least, I think.
