Sounds from the archive of the future, sonic drilling into the past, dissonant rumbling, lyrical melodies, noises (human, animal, mechanical, digital) inscrutable yet honest, desultory but consistent.

"Strength Through Detour": I like it!

Is it just me or are there not as many road detours as there used to be?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
the Canterbury wood-elf:

I love what KAS does, but found that last album a bit too vocal-oriented for my tastes... if anyone prefers her instrumental work, there's this rather wonderful new online release: kaitlynaureliasmith.bandcamp.com...

Queens if all road detours everywhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
the Canterbury wood-elf:

When I first moved to Belgium, I often saw road signs saying "Wegomlegging", with an arrow. I spent a few weeks wondering what, and where, this "wegomlegging" was. I later found out it meant "detour".

Driving from Tucson into Mexico, through Nogales to points beyond, the first word of Mexican spanish one learns is desviación (detour) ... the old road to Puerto Peñasco has seen better days...

Good afternoon. That Matteo Liberatore was really thrilling. Digging the shifting/ blurring of density and texture in it, hanging right there on the edge.

I think that road was built by the US Army during WWII and probably hadn't been maintained since.

@Chris from DC - I went to 70% of the festival or so and my main takeaway is George Stavis (amazing 60s banjo player with a nifty cover of Coltrane's My Favorite Things).

Nice. A good portion of the fest is archived on KFJC I think. I have to see if they have that set.

@Michael 9.8: Kauai flooding? Please let Tiki Iniki still stand strong. A surreal joy was having Todd Rundgren's better half sining "happy birthday to you" for the missus while we gathered strong beverages upon us...

True; I recall her telling us about that storm, which sounded like quite a thing...

Also: the new road that crosses the middle of the island yielded the best, most clear night-sky viewing ever seen. Positively psychedelic.

Bohannon, Bohannon, Bohannon, Bohannon.
Avatar 3:53pm

whoa, this Bohannon thing. Not familiar. At first, sounded like a subterranean funked-out cover of Can 'don't turn on the light/leave me alone' .. that opening ..

Ken From Hyde Park:

Visited Hawaii in January one year and spent the night in the cabin on Mauna Loa. Went outside to find the restroom at night and noticed that the stars weren't twinkling. I wish I would've spent more time looking up, but I was really cold. (Who brings a warm jacket to Hawaii?)

Bronwyn now i'm even more confused! i was imagining it in Aretha's voice but in the melody of the George Michael "freedom"; and i can't imagine the rest of the song now...and i always thought Aretha's "think" was a cover of the James Brown "think" but now i realise it's not the same song at all.
- i need more "vitamins".
