Kashtin was played a great deal in it's time on the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

Some of you know this already, but it’s news to me: WFMU turned 60 today: http://www.wfmu.org/LCD/21/timeline.html

I think sneah means love — it’s in so many songs — so probably Honey Love or Live Like Honey would be most accurate?

Gary: Yes, indeed, I just got that memo myself, in fact - virtual 60th anniversary drinks on the house!

Édouard Manet's "Luncheon on the Grass" was riffed on for a Bow Wow Wow album cover.

And yes, I discovered I had the track twice - once as Nothing to be Ashamed of, and once as Love Like Honey. I guess it's about not being ashamed by the love.

Presumably, the girl in the Breastfeeders was not willing to do nudity.

Going back to Gary's post of the LCD page, I want to say thank you, as it made for interesting reading. Okay, I'd better get back to work.

Yes, that is a very interesting link for the occasion- wfmu.org... (Thanks, Gary!). I guess this track is the closest I'll get to a Lutheran service tonight.

Dean:

From the Nov. 2, 1968, Billboard "Vox Jox" column by Claude Hall, this:

WFMU-FM at Upsala College in East Orange, N.J., has been playing progressive rock and, to be frank, has some of the best programming available in this format anywhere in the nation. But, being a non-commercial listener-sponsored college station, the station must depend on donations. Nov. 30, the station will go off the air unless a fund-raising marathon beginning Oct. 28 works out. The marathon will last 24 hours daily for about two weeks. They n eed artists for on-air appearances and anything else anyone can do to help.
  5:00pm
melinda:

@Dean nice bit of history
  5:01pm
melinda:

Wasn't 1968 the year it went freeform?
  5:04pm
Dean:

According to the WFMU timeline linked above:

12. November 4, 1967:
First WFMU Freeform show, Vin Scelsa's The Closet, debuts (midnight-6am).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm
David D:

Thanks, Dean! Someone should write a book on the history of the station (hint. hint)...

Will there be Alleycats?
  5:14pm
Dean:

Rather Alley Cats?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm
Parq:

You got nothing on me, NGH. I commented on the link between the Lied des Teufels and the Fugs without noticing the theme of the rest of the stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm
David D:

@Melinda: The FMU film is unfortunately not on Netflex over here - among many, many other things.

Eddie Palmieri - I could have guessed.
Nice.
  5:21pm

That really sucks, David
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm
David D:

@Melinda: Yes, it has something to do with rights, etc.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:39pm
Sem:

Nothing personal, David, but this is where I say goodnight to you, and all, and with sincerity say, "Thanks for nothing." Later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm

Nothing else to say but thanks, Sem!

@NGH: You reminded me before of this map of internet laugh representations around the world: mapsontheweb.zoom-maps.com...
Avatar 🚂 5:49pm
northguineahills:

@David: Wife got me to "jeje" and "jaja". And, as you know, know it's not to different from the the Scandi or Germanic countries either (assuming people there laugh ;)
Avatar 🚂 5:50pm
northguineahills:

too different, why can't I English (or any other language)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm
Parq:

Ohh, Trane's "All or Nothing At All".
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:52pm
doctorjazz:

Trane just jumps out of the radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm
David D:

@NGH: People here tend to haha as in English and I guess all the other grey parts of the map. The 55555 in Thailand is particularly interesting, calls out for wider adoption...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm
David D:

Doc. I know what you mean!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:55pm
doctorjazz:

Blood jumps out as well...
Avatar 🚂 5:57pm
northguineahills:

I can't remember which book it was, but I distinctively remember as a 12-year old reading a book where the Swedes and Germans laughed as "jajaja", and there was actually some sprinkled Swedish and German in it w/ translations in the footnotes.
Avatar 🚂 5:58pm
northguineahills:

5 is phonetically "Ha" in Thai (used to know that, had to look it up).
Avatar 🚂 6:00pm

I've sampled this Sun Ra many times....

doctorjazz:

Thanks for Nothin', David! Time to hit the Staten Island Expressway, great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm
David D:

Thanks, Doctorjazz, say hi to SI!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm
David D:

NGH: Back to the book of laughter -it must have been a typo with jaja (=yesyes), which sounds more like annoyance than mirth in German.
Avatar 🚂 6:33pm
northguineahills:

I picked up a lot of 50s Deutsche vinyl last time I was in Germany (and some Stockhausen). Even some older 78s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm
David D:

That's great! I hope they all survived the journey.
Avatar 🚂 6:36pm
northguineahills:

I knew "ja" was an informal "yes". The Germanic J is closer to a Y then an H.

Yep, still have all of it (hit a lot flea markets [but nicer]).
  6:38pm
Dean:

One of my daughter's friends from our neighborhood, a young girl of five or six, was named after Hildegard Knef.
Avatar 🚂 6:42pm
northguineahills:

Dean: Wow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm
David D:

Not a lot kids named Hildegard here today - but I can imagine it coming back.
  6:49pm
Dean:

My assumption was that the medieval composer (inter alia) was the namesake.
  6:49pm
Dean:

Hmmm, was Tatum O'Neill names after Art?
  6:50pm
Dean:

Er, O'Neal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm

It could have been - but there have been others as well. Good question...

Hie thee to Sequentia's two, count 'em, TWO recordings of HvB's magnum opus, Ordo Virtutum! Prepare to be scared mightily when the devil makes his entrance.
  6:56pm
Dean:

Really, The Alley Cats' "Nothing Means Nothing Anymore" would have fit in nicely today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm

Thanks Dean, next nothingtime, I guess...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm

And thanks everyone - have a great week!
