Not enough punch/pop or I think Wendy might have chartered better. Still can't believe Gary is Jerry's son. I hear, "This Diamond Ring," and see the telethon in my minds eye. | |

Thanks to JOHNNY MATHIS for giving us JEFFERSON AIRPLANE. Searching "JEFFERSON HANDKERCHIEF" and "I'm Allergic to Flowers" merely yields songwriter Dave Burgess' name. (YouTube comments for the song may yield more info.) In 1957, Challenge Records (bad label name, stress-inducing) was founded with singing cowboy Gene Autry. Singer-songwriting studio musician Dave Burgess was brought on board to bring the label success. That year when he assembled other musicians to join in the recording of a song of his, the throwaway what-do-we-put-on-the-"B"-side jam with Burgess on rhythm guitar was the million-selling sensation, "Tequila." In 1962, Challenge rechristened embryonic talent Marty Buchwald to record as MARTY BALIN; he'd release 2 singles including a Burgess-written track. Even with Glen Campbell on guitar these weren't noteworthy, even bad. A few years later Balin took off with Jefferson Airplane's different music style. Therefore, "I'm Allergic to Flowers" by "Jefferson Handkerchief" is most certainly a personal wink and tip of the cap from Dave Burgess to one that got away. . Lemme BOOKMARK some links, beginning with a 2017 blog post itemizing many names passing through Challenge. Micky Dolenz ! Those Blossoms' records you've played weren't hits ? Next, from April of this year: "Modern [Records] owner Jules Bihari pulled a gun on me." Then, Believe It or Not: Bored with playing the same songs on the road, replacement Champs Seals and Croft switch bands with the Crickets, thinking the audience won't notice. By T.
