Hey, all! Can anyone ID today's mystery LP-under-the-cassettes? If you know the record, it should be easy to figure out.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm

None, now.

Tony Coulter:

Ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
Rich in Washington:

I don't think I ever became as aware of timezones before I got into listening to and also making radio over the internet. It ain't such a small world after all.

Tony Coulter:

So, no one but Rich recognizes today's mystery LP? It's a fucker of an album, you rats. (That's sort of a clue.)

Tony Coulter:

Per wikipedia: "A coulter or colter is a vertically mounted component of many plows that cuts an edge about 7 inches (18 cm) deep ahead of a plowshare. Its most effective depth is determined by soil conditions."
  1:05pm
Dean:

I prepared eggplant Parmigiana yesterday. The eggplants had tiny labels affixed to them. The labels read, "Eggplant, John 14:6." For a moment, I thought I might have overlooked a biblical recipe for eggplant Parmigiana or moussaka, but no.
  1:08pm
Dean:

OED on "coulter": The iron blade fixed in front of the share in a plough; it makes a vertical cut in the soil, which is then sliced horizontally by the share.

Its earliest occurrence? c1000 in T. Wright & R. P. Wülcker Anglo-Saxon & Old Eng. Vocab. (1884) I. 90 Gefæstnodon sceare and cultre mid ðære syl.

Tony Coulter:

Yep, my family name comes from a word that's been totally obscure for over a 1,000 years.
  1:19pm
Dean:

My family name comes from my paternal grandfather's imagination. Really. He changed it for some inexplicable reason.
  1:20pm
Dean:

No, it wasn't originally Schaubroeck.
Avatar 1:21pm
Tony Coulter:

The one family name I would understand people changing is Lipschitz ... and maybe Cockburn.
  1:23pm
Dean:

There is the joke, rooted in fact, about two television celebrities of the '70s, Jack Narz and Tom Kennedy, who were brothers. Which one do you suppose changed his name?
Avatar 1:25pm
Tony Coulter:

Do tell!
Avatar 1:27pm
Tony Coulter:

Was Mr. Narz's original name perhaps "Off"?
Avatar 1:33pm
Tony Coulter:

(Not that that makes any sense, if they're brothers -- but that's the best I can come up with.)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Stanley:

I'm keen also to know the answer.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:48pm
Stanley:

I'm changing my name to Stanley Anal Furgler
Avatar 1:49pm
Tony Coulter:

Greetings, Stanley Anal Furgler! I think Dean is taking a nap. Either that, or he's deliberately torturing us.
Avatar 1:53pm
Tony Coulter:

@ HollyRT: If you're still here, perhaps you can tell us something about Tony Garan. (Holly tells me she knew him years ago.)
  1:55pm
Dean:

Well, I mean, the question is the joke. The answer would only spoil it.
Avatar 1:57pm
Tony Coulter:

A joke? Narz is a fine old name. (Not that I ever heard of it before)
  1:58pm
chresti @griffith Park:

Sounds good
Avatar 1:59pm
Tony Coulter:

Can't help wondering if "Experence Studio" should really be "Experience Studio" -- but I type what I see.
  2:00pm
Dean:

You didn't watch Beat the Clock?
Avatar 2:01pm
Tony Coulter:

Nope -- not even sure what it is.
Avatar 2:01pm
Tony Coulter:

@ chresti: Glad you like it!
  2:03pm
Dean:

Was a game show, hosted by ... Jack Narz.

Was also a Sparks song, named I suspect after the game show.
Avatar 2:14pm
Tony Coulter:

My family didn't have a TV when I was growing up, so I missed lots of stuff. I mostly only saw programs on from around 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM -- the hours after school and before dinnertime, when I would be at friends' houses.

  2:19pm
Dean:

How I wish my family hadn't had a TV! My kids and, for that matter, spouse want to shoot me, but television has long been prohibited in my domestic empire.
Avatar 2:21pm
Tony Coulter:

I don't have a TV now either, just an old analog set I use as a monitor. I haven't watched live TV in 10 years.
