RIP Herbert Broadwell, my Uncle "Hub," gone at age 92 (pictured with my Aunt Edith). I'll miss his bad jokes, whispered under his breath like Popeye, and his urging us to have another cocktail whenever we visited.

My mom, Lois Trudel, was a remarkable woman, and a loving, cheerful, creative spirit. As Lois Woodbury, born on Long Island outside Portland, ME, she joined the Navy as a radioman listening for enemy submarines in WW II, and as a second act worked for Western Union in Newport, RI. She later went to art school in NYC, where she met and later married my father, Ralph, and had also designed department store displays in the city. She raised five of us children, and never worked for pay again, but I never thought of her as just a housewife. Lois painted, drew, created crafts projects, and was very active in her church and American Legion activities. And she loved a good joke, the sillier the better. She instilled in me a love of radio and music that I'm grateful for every day. Mom passed in September of 2007, and I still miss her laugh and twinkling eyes. Love you Mom! <3

Kitty just wants to "help."
Sam was creating a video presentation about the Lego Town project he does for his son’s school when he got some unexpected help from his cat.

Today at noon on my WFMU program: Yet Another More or Less Annual Citizen Kafka Memorial Broadcast! Old time fiddler, band leader, 78 record collector, poet, artist, unterKultur archivist and antiques dealer Richard Shulberg created the Citizen Kafka persona ca. 1976. "Shulky," as he is fondly referred to, passed a few years ago but he still lives afloat the radio waves and myspace rebroadcasts of the much adored/reviled "Citizen Kafka Show." Longtime co-conspirators Marty Cutler, Edward Haber and Kenny Kosek drop by to pay homage to the Citizen on Irene's show. http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/50348

Shown along with Buster Keaton's "The Navigator" at Film Forum NYC during their annual donors brunch, "The Critic," with Mel Brooks brilliant commentary. http://youtu.be/DiYjwRZK_NM
Mel Brooks is probably the greatest comedic genius that this world has seen. From the underrated Silent Movie to the hysterical 2000 Year Old Man the man's a...
