Hey Really Lisa & Deborah!
Morning kevlicki,🥁 9:19am : Bix Lives!🥁 9:19am : Bob, I read the Jonathan Donaldson interview with you. It is funny how we both had our heads turned by Mr Tambourine Man, must have been twelve going on thirteen. It just sounded so right, singles were my only option then but it got some action on the stereogram. Jangly twelve string, three part harmonies & good songs. Bands are still trying to emulate that sound even nowadays. It was like a door opening to the future. Cliches aside, I still love the song and there was so much juice in their records to nourish you. First gig at fifteen turned out to be Gram Parsons last one with them, how was I to know then. Happy days.9:19am : Yeah but it flowed ~from~ somewhere, TDK60.
Everything did/does.🥁 9:20am : Hello TDK60, hope all is well with you.9:21am : Good morning. Bobs show coming in ok via my $1.35 am/fm clock radio. But when Bobby Sheffield (?) played my mom heard the scream and she said "what was that?". Oh mommy. Oh bob. Oh skeleton crew. Oh listeners.9:21am : 'mornin, all!🥁 9:21am : 'Motivating over the hill', what a great line.9:21am : I don’t want to brag, but I sat at the bar with Big Joe Turner at the old Tramps. Just the two of us!9:22am : Brian in UK, "like a door opening to the future" that's so well put! It stopped me in my tracks, literally.
Wow, you got to see the band w/GP! Fantastic!9:22am : Of course, Bob, it all goes back. But that's the one I pick for the "R&R." Hee! // Brian, yep; I recall when I first heard Tambourine. I didn't pay attention in school for several days, just daydreamed.9:23am : @Jeff That`s not bragging, that`s damn cool.9:25am : Hi Bob, it's nice to wake up and hear Charlie Mingus!🥁 9:26am : TDK60 at the begining of '65 I bought the Moodies Go Now! & You've Lost That Loving Feeling' you would think that would be enough but no, come Summer the Byrds arrived.9:27am : Señor Brainen! Been a long time. Good to hear you on da box!9:27am : Good morning herb.nyc, Ha! Brian in UK, amazing wirter Chuck was, so far ahead of the pack.
Jeff, I'm green w/envy!
TDK60, I hear you!
Hey YETI BOB,
Hola Baker, thanks!9:29am : Jeez, "wirter" = writer, or..."worder."🥁 9:29am : Guess Wynonie Harris & Big Joe must have played on the same bill. That would be something.9:30am : Mingus! Mingus! Mingus!9:30am : Brian, "Go Now" and "You've Lost.." are some top trax too!9:30am : mingus album worth it just for the song titles9:34am : Oh man, would have loved to have seen Wynonie!
Hey Bird & manana,🥁 9:35am : Was so lucky to grow up when I did with so much great music, the first age of electric popular music. There were no boundaries then and the Beatles led the way and maybe still do. So popular even now.9:37am : Sounding good Bob! Good morning ya’ll9:37am : I love this old Taj album. Check out the cover, he with Mississippi John Hurt at a '60s folk fest. Great photo.9:38am : Fran Lebowitz has a great Mingus story on the new Netflix series, "Pretend It's a City." Co-created with Martin Scorsese, it's on the second episode.9:39am : Good morning!9:40am : @TDK60: hell, on account of all the little chickies was more than enough everyday for me not to pay attention in school.9:40am : I feel the same Brian in UK! Blessed. I try to remind myself of that when 'm feelin' achey and old.
Thanks PaulRobeson1920!
TDK60, I was reminded I have to relisten and play more Taj!
How is that series Todd E?9:41am : Good morning to you Uncle Michael & Kpx9:43am : Q.M.S. & Cippolina! Do I smell incense?9:43am : Incense and peppermint🥁 9:44am : Taj's Music Fuh Ya', is a favourite in this house, particularly for Robert Greenidge's steel pans.9:45am : I saw Taj with Howard Johnson. That tuba was mighty powerful.9:46am : @Bob Brainen: buenos dias senor bobarino.9:46am : I wish Taj Mahal and Bob Weir would finish writing their Satchel Page musical.9:47am : love this andy williiams.9:48am : Frank and Nancy next?9:48am : Nice to hear Andy Williams not crooning “It’s the most wonderful time of the year...”9:48am : Hey Zoot,Wow!
I'll keep that in mind Brian.
Kpx, back at cha.
Hey Dale, me too!9:48am : Taj's live double album, The Real Thing, (at Fillmore East) had Johnson and other tuba/brass players.9:49am : And after Nancy and Frank--Nancy and Lee Hazelwood.9:50am : My beer is Rheingold, the dry beer9:50am : Good Morning, Bob. The Mingus track was just superb.9:50am : TDK60: that’s where I saw Taj with Howard9:50am : Howard Johnson was everywhere. Band -Rock
of Ages9:51am : Hi Uncle Michael. Never heard of that.9:51am : Saw Howard with the Band also🥁 9:51am : Perfect start to Sat.,Bob. Apropos of nuthin' atall: Hubert Sumlin and I chatted about "dribblin'" in the bathroom at the Jazz Standard. Even in his autumn he was a wizard9:51am : got a 'gansett ad? equal time for sox fans9:51am : Also saw Howard with his band, four tubas9:52am : Yikes Zoot. I think my brother was there. Who else on the bill?9:52am : I'm a Corona man, the very very rare times I imbibe. Lime=essential!
Hey Watchpocket, JazzMan.
Thanks Bob G!
4 tubas! THats a LOT of bottom! Did they have any other instruments?9:53am : TDK60: Hot Tuna and Johnny Winter9:53am : Hey Bob G, I spoke to Howard Johnson in the bathroom at NJPAC in Newark. He looked at me kinda funny. I don’t blame him!9:54am : @Bob: I don't actually drink Rheingold, it was just a reference to an old beer ad from the 60s that gets stuck in my head9:54am : Bob: drummer and they all doubled on different horns9:55am : Always loved this lush Lefevre number as a kid. So interesting to hear it now in the context of your programming--a whole different appreciation for it.9:55am : Zoot: Yep, that's the one.🥁 9:55am : Soul Coaxing was the theme tune on the pirate station Radio Caroline in the Sixties. You know when you hear a tune and think, what does that remind me of.9:56am : That one was really good!9:56am : TDK, I presume it's long-abandoned. I last read about that project in the mid-'90s.9:57am : wonder how the champagne of bottled beer tastes from a can-in fridge for game later9:57am : U.M. There must be a few rough sketch songs on hold, though...9:58am : Ballantine India Pale Ale has been reintroduced🥁 9:59am : Wow! Didn't John Fred do a version of this?9:59am : A Mouse ballad! Wow!10:00am : Jeff, funny!
I hear ya YETI, but I do love Corona.
Sounds great Zoot.
It's good Wm. but Mouse has that sorta resigned low key angst thang.10:03am : Corona with lime on a hot day can't be beat!10:04am : Been putting a good splash of lemonade in my lager10:05am : 'pretty blue eyes' is steve lawrence's best in my estimation.10:05am : the A&W had a sign out said No Root Beer Quart -- NRBQ10:09am : So *that's* the Howard Johnson NRBQ's "Howard Johnson's Got His Mojo Workin' On Me" is about. I somehow always knew they couldn't be getting that excited about the restaurant.10:09am : Hey Bob, I discovered someone yesterday of whom I bet you know of. have you ever heard of German country singer from the '60s called Ronny, singing,Kenn ein land. When I heard him I thought this guy is right up Bob Brainen's alley.i think it's a safe bet that no other fmu dj played him.🥁 10:09am : Cowell cut this tune with Marion Brown as well.10:11am : Good Morning Bob & All! I've been spreading the gospel of Brainen - Please say hello to two new listners this morning: Don in GA and Steve in VA. Brainiac Nation continues to sweep America!10:11am : Hey Bob + fellow jazz loving listeners. There’s going to be a free Charles Lloyd livestream tonight at 10 EST. I’m really grateful that you’re back on the air Bob!10:13am : Ah, wow, OK. You would know. But they do seem to be very aware of and influenced by a lot of these earlier '50s bebop dudes.10:15am : Morning. So happy to be here. :)🥁 10:16am : Zoot @ 10:04, we used to call that a Lager Top.10:16am : Love that Clifford Jordan track, and the harmonies on this Left Banke song. Great tunes for a grey Saturday!10:16am : Wm. it's a Brown album? Cowell also did it on his 1st Strata East album.
MikeyfromNC Thx!

Filling with breath the bubbles from the bowl.

Into the filmy beads he blows his soul...🥁 10:18am : Yeah Bob. It's on an Impulse album called Vista. 1975(?)10:18am : watchpocket, Terry Adams did get to play/record w/Howard when he toured with Carla Bley.
