	11:07am still b/p: Listened to a Dean-linked sample of the Mozart played on Mozart's OWN ol' fortepiano. My unfounded presumption expected a more limited sound, not the burnin' speed and facility actually demonstrated. Instrument's sound quality is like a saloon piano...that's in tune. There's some YouTube to check later of same pianist at those same keys, and lecturing.

Besides the completed fragments and Levin’s tasteful and always interesting ornamentations, the use of Mozart’s own piano is extraordinary. The range of dynamics, phrasing, and touch puts Levin’s interpretations in the same league as Uchida, de Larrocha, and Pires. There are competitors playing copies of old fortepianos, but this is the real thing."

For a number of reasons, Chris isn't able to contribute more than his weekly segments on this program, which I have been entirely thrilled to accommodate. S∅ nice to∅ see y∅u, coelacanth∅:

For now, I'll share that yesterday I played some of this Sibelius box: https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/8829234--sibelius-the-7-symphonies I recently got from Presto a bunch of discs, including that box and another complete Sibelius with Berglund conducting Bournemouth. The latter includes older recordings that I've long enjoyed. For fun I played the Vanska 5th followed by the Berglund. My favorite may yet be Berglund, but the Vanska performance on SACD, which is a bit slower, was so much more revealing of the orchestral color. Loads of detail without the risk of shrillness that once came with digital.

My unfounded presumption expected a more limited sound, not the burnin' speed and facility actually demonstrated. Instrument's sound quality is like a saloon piano...that's in tune. There's some YouTube to check later of same pianist at those same keys, and lecturing.

For now, I'll share that yesterday I played some of this Sibelius box: https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/8829234--sibelius-the-7-symphonies I recently got from Presto a bunch of discs, including that box and another complete Sibelius with Berglund conducting Bournemouth. The latter includes older recordings that I've long enjoyed. For fun I played the Vanska 5th followed by the Berglund. My favorite may yet be Berglund, but the Vanska performance on SACD, which is a bit slower, was so much more revealing of the orchestral color. Loads of detail without the risk of shrillness that once came with digital.
