Yuja Wang, like Trifinov, Lang Lang, and many, many current virtuosi, make my head explode. We live in a time of incredible musicianship, and it serves to help us realize again how incredible the virtuosi of the past could be, too. And yet I can't give up on those past greats.

I don't recall that rec, Sam, but she is simply bonkers great, so I don't doubt it.

tttps: Good question @11:00. Depends on what you mean by "redeem" (maybe also by "mediocre"). Here's an example: Musica Antiqua Koln long ago recorded a marvelous rendition of Pachelbel's famous and arguably overplayed Canon. The work is lovely, but nothing special in the grand scheme of things. But MAK's delivery kicks ass.
