Irwin, when is your show on WKCR?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm

Maybe Irwin didn't want their smelly old slot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
Caryn:

@rrg: Ken is away, and let's face it, there's no way Andy could be persuaded to do the show by himself. Of course, the fact that this is happening right after 7SD got another hour of air time is rather unfortunate. But heck, Lamin gets more time for once. More fair to give a guy with a 1-hour show extra time than to give someone with 3 hours more time, is my take on the "why not Irwin" thing.

Not to mention that doing a 5-hour show, especially right after the Marathon, is probably not ideal. Irwin probably would prefer not to do that.

Will Tony Seymour notice this airplay right away, like last time?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Ike:

Andy has done 7SD without Ken before, but he has to be wrangled by someone else, like the great Kelly Jones. Anyway, looking forward to a 3-hour Lamin show. Hope Ken abandons the crazy 2-hour 7SD concept and gives Lamin 2 permanent hours.

One biographer of Hendrix described the voices of the Brits around him as 'Hobbit-like' - & I would say there's something to that re the Experience - Mitch Mitchell (d) & Noel Redding (b) (yes a Noel)
- but not *esp.* Noel Coward-like?...(You can hear Redding singing on 'She's So Fine' on 'Axis:Bold as Love' album, & on 'Little Miss Strange' on Electric Ladyland...)
- As for Frank Marino's bassist - I don't know or remember
- but I did see Mahogany Rush not too many years ago (had a violinist!) - &
a.) Not as Hendrixy as you'd think - not his only influence
b.) It was Kewl - ! Had a guy doing a graphix/light show w/ him...

@AP: It can be if you let it. Social media is just a new delivery system :)

This show has me hypmotized. I should have blown this Bronx taco shack 40 minutes ago. I could be sleeping on the subway right now!

enjoying today's programme, irwin.

I found my spade! It's beating in my chest! Toodles.

Droll:

I wonder if that would have been a more popular show if it were shot as a reality show instead of a documentary.

I thought we were supposed to put away our marathon decorations after the holiday ended. My heart is already boxed up and in storage with the X-mas, Thanksgiving, and Halloween decorations.

You got one, Heartdricks!

But for those who would prefer other card symbols: ♠♠♠♦♦♦♣♣♣

@AP: Aww, but don't sleep in the subway, darling! By which I mean the pedestrian underpass that the Brits refer to as a "subway".

Are the hearts a permanent thing?

I'll take a diamond, Math You.

G:

I have to say though (and this is not a complaint) that I just went ahead and donated on day one, whereas in prior years I usually waited longer to think about exactly what to do.

But when so many hearts are there, you know not having one can lead others to analyze. So I donated the first Monday, and that way *I* didn't have to think about analyzing possibly being analyzed any more. But I would have donated anyhow at some point. I suppose the heart pushes more donations earlier... :)

Nothing's permanent, Michiel.

MfS: Never in the pedestrian underpass, only on the train. Although they both smell like urine.

The spoken word piece refers to writing on bathroom walls-
whatever became of that tradition? As late as the 1960's one could find doggeral and mildly ribald graffiti. No more- why?

G, My only regret in not pledging earlier is I was too late for naming rights to Irwin's comments board. I wanted to name it:
1-800-FREENOSEJOB.COM Coliseum

rrg:

Droll, I think I have it. I haven't named it, though.

rrg, Hint: It's spelled Colosseum

Caryn:

@AP: true, commenters could be shamed. But on the other hand, each person listening online or otherwise using the online services costs WFMU in bandwith costs (whereas the number of radio listeners has no impact on the broadcast costs), so each commenter is costing WFMU money each time they are here. Thus they have more reason to donate. Trying to affect them with simple hearts is a relatively benign method of coercion.

That is not necessarily true though. I am commenting now, but listening on terrestrial radio.

rrg, Yeah, without 7SD looming, that sense of dread at the end of Irwin's show is completely missing.
Thanks again, I!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm
Caryn:

@jan: it's still going on, but perhaps to a lesser extent. I have noted that the personal insults and "for a good time call..." messages seem to have moved online, though.

Yep, rrg, it's that time again. Thanks Irwin for another mid-week treat!

Have a good night everyone! Although with 7SD off, it's actually safe to stay tuned to the radio tonight! ;)

Everything you type winds up on a playlist that takes up space on a server. So you an incremental burden on the system even if you listen on radio, until the fatal accident.
