First Sebastian album was cut and set for release in late '68. A single was issued on Kama Sutra in late '68 but the label folded soon after. Then management decided to pit MGM and Warner Bros. against each other and the shenanigans delayed the release for over a year.

Used to see RSJ and the Decoding Society quite a bit. It was an offshoot of Ornette’s Prime Time and incl Vernon Reid (guitar) and Melvin Gibbs (bass). Lots of great live music in NYC back then.

I think the first time I saw Ornette was ‘77. It was an amazing concert: Double Quartet w/Higgins, Blackwell, Cherry, Redman, etc, the Revolutionary Ensemble w/Blood Ulmer and what I believe was the debut of Prime Time w/Shannon Jackson. Also, saw Prime Time at Ornette’s loft (and many other times). Those were the days!

First concert I ever saw was Canned Heat. Just after Woodstock with Harvey Mandel on guitar. It was during the day and my mom took my friend and me! All I remember is the stage bounced from Bear Hite and they signed autographs by concessions.

I've been listening to a lot of Canned Heat this past year. Al Wilson was one of the most creative players both on harp and guitar, and his guitar playing was understated but he always threw in a killer lick that made your ears stand up, "what was THAT?". Monster harp player too. On The Road Again, when he hits that high note...wow

I am a fairly decent harmonica player but I could never figure out his solo on "On the Road Again.' I think he may have doctored his harps. That plus his brilliance and soul.

That clip of the Heat on Playboy After Dark playing Turpentine Moan has one of my favorite Blind Owl moments (and guitar moments in general)...he hits this lick on the slide that's out of this world. Makes me smile every time

I did hear he's playing a modified harp on "On The Road Again"! That high note is crazy. Al spent a lot of time with the original bluesmen and as a result knew a lot of their tricks like modifying reeds that few others would know

Byrds, Three Dog Night, James Brown, Ike and Tina, Nilsson among many others - They need to get a DVD compilation of that show happening! It's worth it too just to see Barbi Benton and the other groovy dancers. Canned Heat was on multiple times I think
