A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

There is the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre on W. 24th St. in Manhattan, Trouble. Someone there can help you to understand meditation. There are one-off workshops I think. But TRUE, all of the 'secrets' are in you. I think it just takes daily practice: emptying your mind. Turning off the chatter. Go outside. Sit still. Listen to the birds.

Re: Monkey mind - a couple of years ago I made the decision to not look at _any_ devices for the first hour after getting up. I don't know that it made a huge difference but it did help. Reading The Wire or some poetry was way better for my brain than the headlines of the day.

I think one of the conditions for peace seems to be to work thoughtlessly for others. The ego IS the monkey chatter. Being busy looking after stuff that is outside of you and what you think you look like to others. That's one path.

I was taught by some of the best (MA Holistic Health Studies, Post grad Center for Mind-Body Medicine and still learning). When I teach it depends on the purpose of the meditation. However, the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn (MBSR) is wonderful. I use the work of Tich Nhat Hanh a lot when I teach meditation. Really, just start by breathing in, breathing out. If a thought or emotion shows up, let it go or concentrate on it; your choice. There is so much but basically there is nothing. Sit. Breathe. Be.

@Trouble Just seeing this meditation discussion. Different styles definitely work better or worse for different people. I personally put a lot of energy into Zen and mindfulness meditations with little success before trying TM decades later and noticing immediate results. I'd say you should be able to tell within a couple of weeks whether whatever you're trying is actually getting you anywhere.

The idea of concentrating on a thought or sensation is interesting. I've had little demonic itches rear their bristly heads from time to time. Strangely, when I focused on them in a relaxed way, they flare but eventually recede into the ether. "Stay if you like," I'd say, But no.

As a college prof suffering teaching online, I have to agree about the stress level and the agonies associated with both online and remote teaching. I got to the point where I had to pull back a little. Bad Medicine released “Trespasser,” on Enyx Records in 1974. In an old interview posted at Soulstacks.com, Arthur Lane explained the genesis of the track: “I recall distinctly in the winter of 1974 telling Richard [Clarke] how cool it would be to record a song called ‘Trespasser.’ I asked him to imagine the feeling he would have if someone were up to no good and trespassing on his property. So I said, ‘Richard, just transfer the intensity and rage you would have chasing this guy into a song called ‘Trespasser.'”
