A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Hi Trouble and troublers. I read a book called “Sex and Broadcasting” 50 years ago. The author espoused the value of non-commercial, free form radio with eclectic playlists covering all genres of music from around the world.

WFMU embodies that principle, especially with shows like this one. I thank the DJs, the staff, Ken Friedman, the chatters, and the listeners that make this station possible.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am

@Avrilinmay -- I highly recommend the "Songbirding" podcast I discovered recently! The host goes for trail walks in different kinds of bird-heavy areas at different times of day and year with a good quality field-mic and records the ambience, and offers minimal discussion of what the birds on that walk are. It hits the perfect balance for me of 90% ambience, 10% educational. ( songbirding.com )
