Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm
drowsy:

There has to be a Beastie deep cut named "Counter-Hegemonic". Hey Sam, zzz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm
Sam Segal:

Drowsy and ZZZ! Thanks for coming by to get "ill" with me tonight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm

Hi Sam and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
Sam Segal:

Top of the horse to you, Doc!
Avatar 10:14pm
Constantly Choking:

Long time since I caught the horse in real time, hello everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm
Sam Segal:

Happy to catch you in real time, CC!

WR:

Hi Sam and drummer streamers, will be listening as I be cooking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
Sam Segal:

Hope you're making enough for all of us, WR!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
doctorjazz:

Something good,WR, we're fussy!
Avatar 10:36pm
Constantly Choking:

Sam is there an overlying theme to tonight's sonic presentation? Summertime Malaise or The Power of Now type thing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Sam Segal:

@CC: I must admit, I haven't consciously concocted this program according to any particular theme, but both of those vibes you mentioned are certainly present within my psyche, so it is possible they've bled into the selections for this evening.
Avatar 10:41pm
Constantly Choking:

haha me too! The Power of Summertime Malaise, Now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
Sam Segal:

I feel like this Ayler tune is really resonating with both themes, CC. You really are onto something.
  10:56pm
rw:

Hello hello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
doctorjazz:

Love this David Murray!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
Sam Segal:

Hola hola, rw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
doctorjazz:

I have a version, live, with Only Data corner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
Sam Segal:

David Murray is so brilliant. Have seen him live with the World Saxophone Quartet, but never with his own group.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
doctorjazz:

Ahem...Olu Dara...
And Arthur Blythe Tuba group, great old stuff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
doctorjazz:

When someone at Columbia would sign someone like Arthur Blythe...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm
Sam Segal:

I was struck recently by the fact that Henry Threadgill recorded for Columbia into the 90s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm
doctorjazz:

Saw David Murray many, many times, with WSQ, with his small groups, with his big band (kinda liked him..)
  11:02pm
rw:

I feel like I saw David Murray years ago in LA somewhere, but I'm not entirely sure. Brain is failing. Definitely saw Arthur Blythe at a little coffee shop size room down the street from here. Fucking fantastic. There was a kid at the table who was there on class assignment. We all told him how lucky he was to have picked that night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
doctorjazz:

James Blood Ulmer too, if I remember correctly. But then the suits got better control.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm
Sam Segal:

Speaking of James Blood Ulmer, that's him on guitar here.
Avatar 11:14pm
Constantly Choking:

Bongo Joe knows what's up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
Sam Segal:

He surely does.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
doctorjazz:

Great set (much from when I was discovering jazz...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
doctorjazz:

George Coleman had the distinction of being let go be Miles Davis, when he was gathering his second Great Quintet (but Coleman is actually a fabulous player, just not what Miles was looking for at the time).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
Sam Segal:

George Coleman also apparently backed up Sammy Davis Jr. on piano early in his career, before his oil drumming days.
Avatar 11:28pm
Constantly Choking:

this is the most Power of Summertime Malaise track yet...love The Field
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm
Sam Segal:

I'd like to take this track with me on a long walk down a sunbaked street...summertime malaise indeed.
  11:32pm
Andy Arozarena:

i bet u wld
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
WR:

George Coleman the oil drum griot and George Coleman the tenor saxophone player are two different gentlemen. Didn't know either of them worked as accompanist to Sammy Davis Jr. But what do I know if you remove my Wikipedia privileges.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
Sam Segal:

Ah that makes sense, WR. George "Bongo Joe" Coleman worked with Sammy Davis Jr. (I still have my Wikipedia privileges).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
Sam Segal:

Hello, Andy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
doctorjazz:

Boy, did these 2 hours go fast, great show, thanks, Sam! Night all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm

(Pardon my George Coleman confusion earlier...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm

You are forgiven, Doc! Thanks for being here.
