Avatar 10:09pm

I first heard this Gene Vincent track on the Armed Forces Network radio in Japan when I was 10, in 1986. Me and my friends would substitute crude words for the actual lyrics (some in Japanese).
Avatar 10:10pm
northguineahills:

For those that know Japanese, there is a profane word that rhymes w/ Lula.....

howdy Kris, dr Jazz and friends!

I have some dance intruction records that had twister sized folded mats in the LPs sleeves that showed you how to dance (footprints and arrows, etc, and other instructions).

Avatar 10:28pm
Kris Holmes:

Mostly, I think I keep a copy of Too Late To Turn Back filed because it's pretty damn great
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:30pm
JtotheK:

@docjazz - brief internet research finds there's a 12" single of do it w style, and that's a sub-genre I wish I knew more about, I like a lot of the 8-11 min disco singles that get a chance to stretch out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
Matt from New Orleans:

It’s solid but not long enough and the Discogs prices are insane for it.
Avatar 10:32pm
northguineahills:

My accent varies from the last person I was talking to, podcast, or movie. It's only when someone ask me about my accent, I get it back to FL Southern or NYC Yankee (my two natural accents).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm
doctorjazz:

I have a bunch of 12 inch disco singles somewhere (think they're downin the basement...don't make me go down there). Think I have the Cornelius Lewis on a CD compilation somewhere, though.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
JtotheK:

@Matt NO - further internet research, discogs has the 'Columbia Records Disco Series' label which has a Maynard Ferguson disco 12" single that I /think/ I heard was a desirable disco track, maybe heard on Duane Train?
Avatar 10:37pm
northguineahills:

Dr Jazz: I think I mentioned this before, but when organizing a rave at an abandoned train depot, I found a room full of disco 12"s. I took as many as I could put in my car.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
JtotheK:

Ah! Duane Train, episode with Maynard Ferguson 'Pagliacci' - but a re-edit. wfmu.org...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
JtotheK:

Peter Nero's cover of Soulful Strut is a JAMMER.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm

Nice find, NGH-you must have a great stash stored somewhere.
Avatar 10:41pm

Yes, the Peter Nero is great

Avatar 10:43pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm

Me neither. I didn’t venture down to The Ace on Saturday and my memory of the weekend is dimming.
Avatar 10:44pm

She did, Matt. I saw her! It was at the Ace Hotel where they moved everything to on that Saturday, the last Stomp
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm

I could twist, but I'd be bent over for a week.

The second best record find, was the Jacksonville Library, where I got a multiple armfuls of avant garde and jazz recs for 50 cents each. Also, in Bed-Stuy, at a junk shop, I found a bunch of Cage and Stockhausen, jazz, R&B and funk records, and I got to name price. ($10)
Avatar 10:52pm

haven't been to Dallas in 43 years (I was two).

Was tempted to buy one record from the dollar box the other day, but I was strong. I didn't buy the Patty Duke.
Avatar 10:55pm

Also, Dj Olive, gave me the pick of his collection before he move to the rockies in British Columbia.

was in OKC for work stuff close to 10 years ago, my colleague had the rental car (not me) so no excursions for post-work record digging. but around that time area record store came up with thousands of 45s from OKC. and then shortly after that, a different friend was in OKC and came up with a lot of great 45s - wonder if it was from that same shop, Mr. Holmes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
doctorjazz:

Love this Malo!
Avatar 11:04pm
Kris Holmes:

Probably not since this guy keeps anything OK
Avatar 11:06pm
Kris Holmes:

That drive between Dallas & OKC is actually kinda nice through the mountains
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
JtotheK:

(whereas - when I was in Canada for work, I was able to convince a different coworker to drag me to Kops Records - multiple times - to dig for 45s. helped that there was a brewery/restaurant right up the road.) ((I would like to go back to CA and Kops Records again someday. I met the owner and let him know that I bought his book.))
Avatar 11:08pm
Kris Holmes:

cool, never been to kops
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:11pm

It's great! And the owner knew the owner of area record store near my work. Kind of fun that all those dudes who have shops and were around ca. 1970s know each other.
