Gary, CC! I hope you brought your footworking shoes for this opening mini-set!

Sweet

Hi Hi Hi Ya’ll

hello Sam - Imagine a digital me saying "hello" to you. A digital pie - so to speak
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm
Sam Segal:

Honor to have you with us, PaulRobeson1920!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm
Sam Segal:

The glorious return of Pie!
  10:13pm
Pie:

(Insert the Tom Riddle line about horcruxes to Prof. Slughorn in the Harry Potter movie) "I came across a bit of interesting reading in the restricted section.." (or something to that effect)

PaulRobeson1920:

it’s good to be here <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Sam Segal:

@Pie, careful not to slip and fall onto any portkeys!
  10:29pm
Pie:

Yes don't want to end up a pie-faced horsey boy ;)

PS- I don't know how that line would land and I wrote it after about 6 other non-pie and non-horse responses came and went

PS (again)- non of those 6 included reference to Bono - I like to think I know my limits

Hey me again - ;)

You're granted a permanent executive pardon, WR! Thanks for being here.

IҜ乇:

Feed Cuomo to the horses, or push him through a dimensional portal?
  10:52pm
Pie:

Ike - I heard there are two of them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
Sam Segal:

Jon! Ike! Step right in.
  10:57pm
Pie:

Cartategna was a final Jeopardy answer recently - It was an important port for many reasons. Matt (was the returning champion) knew the answer and his challenger guessed Bogota (the only city in Columbia I knew, but figured it would be too obvious to be the answer)
Avatar 10:58pm
Ike:

You mean Chris? Merely a pathetic accomplice. I say let the potato, radish, and turnip gods nibble on his face slightly instead of pushing him through a portal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
Sam Segal:

Depends what dimension we're sending him to, Ike. I'd hate for him to end up in the fourth dimension...
Avatar 10:58pm
Constantly Choking:

does the title of this show mean if you lose your horse you can listen to this show and it will bring the horse back, like this is all music that horses really like? or is it that this show will console your heartbreak from your loss?
Avatar 11:01pm
Ike:

Both.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm
Sam Segal:

Good question, CC. I'd say whatever resonates with you. I think I maybe lean more to the heartbreak. But really I always just liked the idea of naming something with only the first clause of a conditional sentence. When I read, "If You Lose Your Horse," I am always left feeling at a loss. "If you lose your horse..." then what? That dumbfounded "then what" is really all I'm trying to invoke.
  11:02pm
Pie:

I also recently learned potatoes aren't indigenous to Ireland - they were brought from South America to Ireland by Spain.

Either way Ike yes- Chris and his giant ear swab can go clean the giant ear of the fifth dimension and be stuck in the tele-box forever
Avatar 11:05pm
Constantly Choking:

@Sam great explanation!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm
doctorjazz:

Hi, lots of horses up here in The Berkshires, you lost any of these?
  11:09pm
Pie:

Interlude = greatness

Jazz- does it ever GET there?

A lot of music nowadays gets there.. ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
zzz:

show is amazing tonight. wonderful selections and flow!!! loving this groovy sonny sharrock (!?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
Sam Segal:

Appreciate the kind feedback, ZZZ! I think you'll dig this next one. William Parker's first ever electric guitar trio record!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
doctorjazz:

Didn't sound like typical Sharrock, poppy! Que Sharrock, Sharrock, I always say...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Sam Segal:

Doc! If you see a horse that looks lost, its mine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
doctorjazz:

I'll lasso it tomorrow, Sam (rose 20+ miles on bike today, too tired to lasso anything now...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
zzz:

ooooh this is cool. saw that William Parker had just released 2 new records. heard bits of the other with daniel carter andhamid drake. this sounds great, so different
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
doctorjazz:

Is this still Sharrock, not Parker? (Things often are posted before I hear them-this sound more 'Sharrock-y')
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
Sam Segal:

The Parker track just wrapped up. Ava Mendoza on guitar, with William Parker on bass and Gerald Cleaver on drums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
doctorjazz:

Mendoza sounded more Sharocky than Sharrock!
Like The Core, not familiar with them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
doctorjazz:

Ladies looking to shop tomorrow-will need to find nearby record shops.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
Sam Segal:

I know, I think I picked that Sonny Sharrock track because it was uncharacteristically low-key for him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm
doctorjazz:

That Core album is not easy to find...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
coelacanth∅:

good evening Sam and all
  11:27pm
Pie:

Yes- for all the off topic commenting I do, I can assure you I wouldn't return if the music didn't stick out to me as being very special and unique
Avatar 11:27pm
Ike:

@Pie@10:57, I rarely watch but I did see that Jeopardy! These episodes where the ongoing champion is completely steamrolling every challenger into miserable submission are pretty boring IMHO. Today he almost made it to the final round alone with his two competitors nearly ending up in negative numbers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
chresti:

hi Sam and lost horses!
  11:28pm
Pie:

If you did write it down Sam - we would all have to kill you (at our respective locations at midnight)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm
chresti:

Gary said you were moving your show to another time?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm
doctorjazz:

I missed that, are you moving all those lost horses?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
coelacanth∅:

if so, i vote for sunday at 10pm, or almost any day at 10am
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Sam Segal:

Hi, Chresti! I have no plans to move my timeslot. Maybe Gary was just referencing that I have some upcoming fill-ins scheduled? I am going to be filling in for D:O Radio on Sunday, August 15 and Music for a Free World on Saturday, August 21st. But no timeslot changes for this program on the docket.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm

I found those Motian on Broadway CDs, contact you about them, Sam!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm
doctorjazz:

Night, Coel (and hi)!
  11:36pm
Pie:

@Ike - I have noticed the game strategy has beefed up a bit with the advent of starting with the higher buck questions first. Holzehauer and The University of Illinois's Mathematics Department is to blame of course..

I realized Matt (the most recent "steamroller" :) ) had potential when he was announced as a "PhD student from New Haven Conneticuit" - but after seeing him barely squeak by with a win I didn't think he would have the strategy to last - but he has impressively been taking some high dollar wins.
  11:40pm
Pie:

The ultimate Jeopardy contestant = someone who answers everything with the inflection of a question
Avatar 11:45pm
still b/p:

Current temp Jeopardy host is good at it, at smooth personable ease in it, energy is suited to it, but entirely ordinary clean-cut white generic media guy. Safe, old school and appealing in a wide audience auto-pilot-familiar kinda way. Hoping for a more interesting ultimate choice, and, yes, some diversity instead of media-persona skate-along redundancy would be A Good Idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm
Sam Segal:

Hello, SBP! Is Levar Burton still in the running?
  11:53pm
Pie:

I think it has just been a giant homage to Alex Trebek because all the guest hosts seemed to have affiliations with him. The Reading Rainbow guy did seem like he has the background but I think they are just waiting for technology to advance enough to do a digital version of Trebek. They are really putting off the inevitable because by that time the cuomo's will have escaped the 4th dimensional tele-box and we will all have to return to work and not be home by 4:30 Central time..

Otherwise stated- a woman host wouldn't kill em
  11:59pm
Pie:

G'night horseless strangers in the crowd : )

Great episode Sam. Thank you very much.
Avatar 12:01am

Unfortunately today Variety reported that generic white guy producer who guest hosted is about to grab the permanent role. I'd've thought Mayim Bialik might get it but maybe she's expensive.
