Hi Taylor!
Hi Jan!
Hi Buddy!
Hi chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm
ironybread:

Yes indeed Buddy, knocking yer lobes like Teo Macero is knockin' the drums hither and yon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
Rich in Washington:

I'm here for piles of Miles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
ironybread:

Hi Chresti!

Excellent stereo separation!

Hi Hyper!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm
Rich in Washington:

I just bought my tickets for the Portland Negativland show. Someone on my show's chat last night made me paranoid that it might sell out like it did in SF.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
ironybread:

Does anyone know if the instant stereo separation is being triggered automatically by amplitude hitting a specific threshold, or did some dude have to trigger every stereo flip manually for a fucking half hour? Impressed either way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
ironybread:

Indeed Rich, I'm good to go for their L.A. show on Thursday
Avatar 1:41pm
Buddy Runyan:

Sounds like a noise gate opening when the signal gets loud enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
Rich in Washington:

apparently manipulated in the studio by producer Macero during editing. He manually flipped it to make the drums appear to pan wildly.
Avatar 1:43pm
Buddy Runyan:

Kind of like “Interstellar Overdrive.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
Rich in Washington:

This will be the first Negativland show I've got to actually see as a civilian in many years, not having to perform any radio station duties while the show's going down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm
Franco Twinkie:

Howdy all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm
chresti:

Where in LA, ironybread?
Hi Rich! Hi Buddy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
Rich in Washington:

i love the panning at the end of Interstellar Overdrive. It makes me dizzy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
Rich in Washington:

Hi Franco! Hi again chresti! How're things down your way?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
chresti:

I can't hear separation with my rinky-dink bluetooth speaker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
ironybread:

Hiya Franco!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
ironybread:

Chresti - they're playing the Echoplex
Avatar 1:48pm
Buddy Runyan:

Hi Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm

Echoplex, indoors? *GULP*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm

Rich, hot, dry, and crispy.

Masks required!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Rich in Washington:

I'm gonna go cook up some breakfast but have this blasting through my house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm
Franco Twinkie:

The Echoplex along with The Echo upstairs was the setting sun place to go see shows for me(us). I made this resolve to NOT go to anymore live shows way before the pandemic, but resolutions are made to be broken....we'll see.
Avatar 1:54pm
Mr Fab:

You may have seen me DJing at the Echoplex back in 2008, Franco. Was part of the Club Bootie crew.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
ironybread:

Hiya Fab!
Avatar 1:55pm
Mr Fab:

Hey missta ‘bread, and fellow Boxers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
ironybread:

Rich - what venue will it be in Portland?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
Franco Twinkie:

Could have Fab. The only DJ I remember was Gary Calamar.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm
Rich in Washington:

The Holocene, which is a great club.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm
Rich in Washington:

It's mere blocks from KBOO, and we were planning on doing a live simulcast (which we pretty much do every time Negativland plays in town) but station brass nixed it out of Covid concerns.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm
Franco Twinkie:

Maybe I'll go on Thursday, but I'll just hang out at the pizza place upstairs and listen thru the floor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm
ironybread:

Hiya coel!
Avatar 2:08pm
Mr Fab:

Ah, but Negativland shows are very visually visual. You'll have to WATCH thru the floor, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm
ironybread:

Side note, will everybody look at this album cover? I mean, damn. I can't even. #LeeFriedlanderFTW
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm
chresti:

Yes guaranteed visual treat, I've never been to a live show, so it seems like a not-to-be-missed event.
Avatar 2:12pm
Mr Fab:

Yup, I have (had?) the vinyl. Needs to go on the wall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm
chresti:

That cover, looks like he's made of wax.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm
ironybread:

And we've got Chick AND Herbie on the keys...just nail the earphones to my head and tiptoe out of the room

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm
Franco Twinkie:

I know, I know! But Fab, I'm an old person! Aside from Covid, I hate standing on concrete for a long time - my knees.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm
coelacanth∅:

first time i saw that Miles album cover it reminded me of a porgy & Bess soundtrack album my father had.
brilliant photography
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm
chresti:

Franco, there are benches along the wall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm
ironybread:

I like that Japan has so many bars built for a top capacity of, say, ten people
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm
Franco Twinkie:

But having said that, I LOVE lightshows! I started going to see bands during the salad oil projection era. That was as much of a draw for me as the bands. The last great visual/sound extravaganza I went to was Wooden Shjips upstairs at The Echo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm
ironybread:

Did anyone buy the Orb's "Orbus Terrarum" back in the day?
Avatar 2:23pm
Mr Fab:

This was exactly the period of Miles that i really explored in depth. All those fascinating rock/funk/avant/psych influences.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
Rich in Washington:

i have it! Love that album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
ironybread:

The organ riff in "Slug Dub", I now realize, was lifted from this tune
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
ironybread:

Not to mention that that repeating bass figure made its way into the music for Super Mario Bros., whenever Luigi is underground in the pipes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm
Rich in Washington:

Oh wow. i did not realize that. That's my fave track on that album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
chresti:

I like "On The Corner", too.
Avatar 2:44pm
Ike:

“Orbvs Terrarvm” (as those jokers styled it on the cover art, as I recall) was one of my faves. The CD must still be around here somewhere.
Avatar 2:45pm
Mr Fab:

"On The Corner" = CLASSIC.

Not sure about those ashtrays for glasses on the "Get Up With It" cover, tho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm
ironybread:

"Pangaea"'s the one that knocked me off the pier
Avatar 2:57pm
Buddy Runyan:

Clam dip?😀
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm
Rich in Washington:

Thanks so much, Taylor! Wonderful show today!
Avatar 2:59pm
Buddy Runyan:

Oh well, probably heard wrong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm
chresti:

Thanks ironybread!
Avatar 2:59pm
Eki:

Mmm, limes.
Avatar 2:59pm
Mr Fab:

i forgive Andy Prieboy for those late Wall of Voodoo albums. They weren't really his fault, were they?
Avatar 2:59pm
Buddy Runyan:

Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm
ironybread:

Thanks for listening all you cats!
Avatar 3:00pm
Mr Fab:

thank YOU, sir!
Avatar 3:00pm
Buddy Runyan:

Careful we might hiss!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm
ironybread:

Hi Ike, bye Ike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm
