Ackley mentioned “Two computers watching each other… talking to each other, yakking it up.” At the beginning of Ridley Scott et al’s 1979 movie “Alien”, the crew is in suspended animation when the unexpected, unexplained transmission is received. We see two computers (“Tom” and “Jerry”) light up and converse, “agreeing” that the crew should be alerted. A smart early suggestion that something like a big space ship would have at least dual independent control systems, constantly double checking each other.

@KFHP - Granted I missed the opening of this interview, but I feel like containerized microservices type software architectures are pretty well aligned to evolve to this type of hardware architecture. I'm using kubernetes to do some work of this type, so I say "I need one component to get 1/10th of a CPU and maybe 64 MB of RAM, and this other one to get 1/20th of a CPU", etc.

I do wonder if the hardware evolution is even necessary - I mean we can already request small slices of CPU and RAM in these containerized platforms. Again, maybe I missed some important context.

Also, to answer how do we prevent big-tech from co-opting. Remove the capitalism baby! The k8s I mention above is me trying to build a platform to support the establishment of, management of and communication between worker cooperatives. I'm betting I'm not the only leftist geek on here - we should start talking...
