For instance, as you probably know, the real name for Moscow is actually "Moskva". How it became "Moscow" in English is a historical oddity that goes way way back, and I don't remember all the details...

	1:54am BH: I went to school with someone here in MO who was from Azerbaijan whose last name was spelled slightly differently depending on if you go directly from Cyrillic or from Azerbaijani. Her name started with a Дж (Dzh) going directly from Russian to English, but it started with J if you go from Russian to Azeribaijani to English. Ja is probably an easier first syllable for a name than Dzha (where I think the D is silent and the zh is actually a J sound) There's probably some added things about how non-Russian names get transliterated from Russian Cyrillic to English here?

	1:54am BH: I went to school with someone here in MO who was from Azerbaijan whose last name was spelled slightly differently depending on if you go directly from Cyrillic or from Azerbaijani. Her name started with a Дж (Dzh) going directly from Russian to English, but it started with J if you go from Russian to Azeribaijani to English. Ja is probably an easier first syllable for a name than Dzha (where I think the D is silent and the zh is actually a J sound) There's probably some added things about how non-Russian names get transliterated from Russian Cyrillic to English here?
