The big problem with the Doors is that THEY SUCK. Their music somehow manages to be both dull and histrionic, and the high-school quality "sex-and-death" lyrics make me ill. Worst of all was how the PR machine behind them worked like demons to turn them into a money machine and lowered the bar immeasurably for popular music in general. Really people, this is WFMU. We are so much better than this. We need never talk of them again.

@iiibeat - My weird theory is that they got the name Jason Voorhees from the other Voorhees, because they filmed it up in NW Jersey, and there's a bunch of stuff named after Governor Voorhees up around and near that area (a state park and a high school among other things).

@Gurlodoggie: I'm not much of Door's fan either, but the bar for popular music was owered immeasurably long before the Doors ever showed up. Rock & Roll is essentially an amature music. Some one once said (regarding the British process of de-colonization) "people don't want good government; they want their own government. The same is true of music and R&R in particular.

Great show Sheila! I love singles going steady week. @DavidL: Consulted an Etta James comp LP I have and learned that the saxophonist/Miss Othmar from Peanuts voice that Etta goes home with at the end of the song was played by Harold Battiste. Recorded in New Orleans. Earl Palmer on drums.
