Jan Turkenburg:

Hi WR!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm
WR:

You guys keep resetting the pledge status so can't tell how you are doing overall. I looked at FDL late on Monday and looked like you had great prizes but no takers.

Rich in Washington:

Hello, Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, the shows are automatically being reset, but the counter on the wfmu main page is the accurate over all one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Rich!
  12:04pm
MHLee:

Song in opening instrumental appears to have been year of jublilo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm
WR:

Hi Rich, sorry didn't have energy to listen last night. Worked until after 10PM ET.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm
Jan Turkenburg:

No, unfortunately there were no takers on monday. Next FDL will have more prizes with lots of bleeps and bloops :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi MHLee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm
WR:

Cornball humor but fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm
Jan Turkenburg:

MHLee you mean Susna's signature tune?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm
Jan Turkenburg:

That's a Dutch band 'Rhythm Boys' - If I had you, 1949
  12:08pm
MHLee:

@jan not sure, when introducing the show i heard it it play
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
Jan Turkenburg:

and during the weatherman's intro I played part of Spike Jones' whittle out a whistle (1944)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm
fred:

What? Nobody pledged on Monday?
  12:13pm
Listener Robert:

I didn't get that shore patrol joke. Did it mean they would "put him to sleep" in a cell?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Hello fred, hello Listener Robert!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
WR:

I haven't allocated my Swag For Life yet, but making a small pledge now since SU64 is one of my top favorites.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
Rich in Washington:

no worries, WR! I'll do another one. and another one. and another one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
WR:

Listener Robert, I didn't even hear that line. They we coming fast and furious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Thank you WR!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
WR:

OK, laters folks, will be listening.
  12:15pm
Listener Robert:

Fred, they put so many good programs on that we have some tough choices. I'm skipping an hour of Bob Brainen for this, and to listen to Bob Brainen I was already skipping Michael Shelley and half of Rex. As to archives, who has time left for that? And with the listeners so go the pledges.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
Jan Turkenburg:

And Thank you Kitschy Mama!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
Jan Turkenburg:

see you WR!
  12:20pm
Listener Robert:

The Marines would've been very nervous then, anticipating an invasion of Japan. Nobody can say for sure, but I've heard said that if not for the A-bomb, troops who'd already fought in Europe would've been sent to the Pacific, and there might've been a mutiny. And once there's mutiny, who can tell if it stops at the armed forces or proceeds to overthrow civil governments?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
fred:

@Listener Robert: Tell me about it, what an embarrassment of riches! I try to support new shows, but there were so many this year I had to make choices I regret (there was no way to avoid regret there with my income)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm
fred:

My previous comment was a reply to Listener Robert @12:15
  12:24pm
Listener Robert:

I don't think anyone would've inferred that war in the Pacific was an embarrassment of riches. :-o
  12:25pm
Listener Robert:

The current arrangement of the commenting system, with its lack of threading and some other features, is deliberately chosen to make commenting not TOO engaging.
  12:29pm
Listener Robert:

To this day I think Royal beats Jell-o on taste -- but D'Gari beats them both.
  12:29pm
MHLee:

That one Jan!
  12:29pm
MHLee:

That tune is year of Jubilo

@Listener Robert: There was an attempt to have a community board, but it was overrun by spam and trolls and would have taken too much effort to moderate. So the comments as they are work for talk about the show, further discussion has to take place somewhere else (I don't think anyone would object to such an exit ramp, though maybe not this week)
  12:33pm
MHLee:

If we were hip zoomers we'd have a discord
  12:36pm
MHLee:

My great-grandfather was a doctor on call for the Boston shipyard during the war
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm

@MHLee: I know someone who used to be on the board of the official radio of the French anarchist federation. Ridiculous in many ways but the way to secure a frequency
  12:41pm
Listener Robert:

Gag went on waaaay too long.
  12:43pm
MHLee:

This is a bizzare one

Hello, Jan. I find frequently that old comedy programs are no longer funny, but still valuable as social history.

This joke gets me everytime
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi David!
  12:51pm

@David in California My upcoming show here will make frequent use of them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Sorry, on saturday episodes I have less time to engage myself
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
fred:

Seeing Groucho's pic reminds me of my many attempts to read Finnegans Wake. It took me over 20 years, and I won't pretend I understood it
Avatar 12:52pm
David in California:

MHLee, I'll be interested in hearing it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm
WR:

Must say that the continued attack on Ukraine is making me susceptible to the war sentiment in this recording.

Thank you Jan.

Fuck Putin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm
Jan Turkenburg:

And I am very much looking forward to it, MHLee!

Thanks Jan!

And I think the coffee company is using Year of Jubilo as the tune
