@G, from your question on last night's State of the Station, I gather both that you get emotionally sucked into the suspense and numbers of the pledge drive as I do and that you don't have much experience with them. All I can note is that WFMU's donors seem to have a flair for the dramatic and hence back-end-load the bulk of the pledges. I have to keep myself from constantly checking and figuring, "OK, if they average X amount per hour, and then the last weekend does Y...." As if I didn't have enough distractions from work.

Thanks @Clinto
The wife and I are vaxed AND boosted!

The daughter and son are double vaxed!
Fortunately, my daughter, who is having it for the second time is having mild symptoms to the point where she now feels completely normal even though she has four more days before she’s totally clear.

My wife who tested positive yesterday then admitted she was already starting to feel rundown and so is generally, and also from the wider horrid perspective, lightly under the weather

Hopefully, if I am struck down, which will be my second time as I was part of the October outbreak, it will also be light like my daughter.

Morning, all!

@Daybreak @Erin Yeah, hearing "Bang Bang" reminds me that one of the ways I try to get friends into FMU is telling them it plays a lot of songs that would fit in to Tarantino movies. That's my hook for them, at least. Another way I'd put it is that it plays a lot of cool stuff, but in a way that champions enthusiasm over self-conscious coolness

I am richer, widened, and opened by WFMU. I do not think there's a real way to pay back all that I have received from the station. It's too much a true gift -- offered for the sake of the offering. So pledging what we can once a year feels both inadequate but also very necessary to show both my internal panic-judge of limited resources and the rest of the lousy capitalist, corporatist, colonialist world that *this* is what I value.

In short: continued amazed thanks for all this station gives us.

I got hooked on polka from a show on WVKR Vassar College Poughkeepsie when I was a teenager. It seemed super exotic back then and super ironic to be listening to it as a "hip" teenager. Now it feels totally normal to unwind with a neurotic high energy polka show Friday evenings!

I started going through old episodes of Edison's Attic this weekend (I mean, I guess they're all old episodes). It made me realize how important the archives are. The library of music the station has made available for free is immense (and very much not free)

@Bryant in TO: I hear you RE the oddly perverted relationship between BigCorp and the arts. Hell, they're STILL debating at some museums whether to take the Sackler name off of certain galleries. And when I went to see the Basquiat show years ago at the Brooklyn museum, there was a HUGE "Brought to you by Pfizer" sign in the lobby and at the main entrance to the exhibit--I mean a full, laser-cut 2" thick 3' long lozenge of the corporate logo.
