I find myself awake at 2:45, about to go to bed. It took me more than two hours to get home from Brooklyn! Weekend subway service sucks!

I always think of Mezzanine as a cold record, because I once walked home in a snowstorm listening to it. Deserted streets, stranded cars, even the one abandoned truck just fit, and it stuck with me

McGroovey, miss you brother. Who were you out seeing? Hello Eric, Fred.

"Constant war between good and evil" reminded me of "Uncompromising War on Art Under the Dictatorship of the Proletariat " for some reason

@McG, let me guess: L train? I was there last night just before it went out of service all weekend for construction and everybody was confused. Also a bunch of the turnstiles weren't taking Metrocards, only OMNY, which was random.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15am

Ahhh, the MTA.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16am
McGroovey:

Ayup. L train. Google maps said the M was running to midtown. "Oh, that makes sense! Subbing for the L train!" But it was a lie. The M was doing the usual M train nighttime thing. So I had to take 4 trains to get to the Port Authority (L, M, J, N), instead of the L to the A, because the A at night creeps me out, and there was construction on the A also, when I was on my way to Brooklyn. Moral: all subway lines are under construction, and you should drive your car. No car? Tuff luck.

Creek & Kills and 3 other bands and some comedians were doing an abortion rights benefit show at Purgatory, which is near the Wilson Ave L stop.

I envy your transit system (seriously). Over here, subways stop between midnight and 1am, and the line I take has been stopping around 10pm for 4 years. Not ideal after shows

@McGroovey: We often say that RATP (the Paris MTA) means "rentre avec tes pieds" ("walk home")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21am
McGroovey:

I live Thin Lizzy. Have we talked about this, Brian?
Avatar 3:21am
Ike:

@fred, actually yes, when I visited Berlin, my reaction was, "Whaddya mean, the train stops running late at night?!?" Ours is a quite unusual system, but the catch is that they have no regular time to maintain and clean the tracks, so there is all kinds of weird, confusing rerouting and random shutdowns late at night and on weekends. To their credit, free shuttle buses often run in place of any trains that are out of service, and IF you are good at mazes and remember to check the MTA website, *usually* you can figure it out. Kind of. Mostly. If you're great at geography and puzzles.

That's "by design," Fred. The US government obscured Mayday as a way of suppressing the labor movement.

BTW @Brian, did you hear about the Wash Post reporter who did a story on the conservative anti-LGBTQ aggregator LibsOfTikTok and then got smeared by Tucker Carlson who apparently made up bizarre conspiracy theories about her? There was a really interesting interview with the reporter on the QAnon Anonymous podcast recently.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28am
Brian D:

@Ike, I did hear about that. Said WaPo reporter had to go into hiding for a bit. Tucker Carlson has been making a habit of putting journalists with whom he disagrees in harm's way. You'd think at least some of his coworkers would speak up.
