I delighted in the fact that I could hold it in my hand: a thin, green wafer etched with a lattice of metal lines. And I quickly noticed parallels between the computer's memory and my own. Prone to anthropomorphism, I continue to compare and often confuse the two. I am interested in exploring how humans and computers store memory. How do they "misplace" information and how do they lose it entirely? How can we differentiate between dreams, "real" and "manufactured" memories? How do certain sounds and aromas trigger very old memories?" -PZ  0:24:39 (Pop-up)

I like that book a lot. There's a fascinating connection to follow in Meridy's story between the pot-growing community in Northern California and the solar electric industry. When solar was new it was expensive and unpopular. Companies would sell like 6 solar panels a month nationwide. But they noticed all of a sudden they were selling two or three times that amount just to rural Northern California. It seemed like an inventory error! But it was the pot growers who needed to draw electricity from somewhere other than from the state utility that would notice the industrial amounts of energy use and come after them. So the growers bought up enough panels to keep the solar companies afloat and innovating ways to improve their products!

I just got to the chapter where the author was born, and it was super moving hearing her talk about the relationship between her parents and her dad. too much to go into here, but he was a psychic and a closeted gay man, so you can imagine that there's lot of heartbreak involved there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
olivia:

he had a vision that he was having a son, and when he found out she was a girl, it kinda shook his foundation as a psychic. it's a very fascinating book, with so many elements involved. highly recommend!
