I feel like I've always been watching Bea Arthur on TV.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm
Krys O.:

I feel the same, Austin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm

I guess Sheldon Harnick remembered her when Fiddler on the Roof was casting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm

She was unforgettable.

Mr Fab:

hey Krys! i actually saw her in that "Just Between Friends" show, and bought the CD there. Some real nutty stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm
Krys O.:

That's awesome, Mr. Fab
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:14pm
Austin Rich:

Never.
Avatar 👻 8:16pm
Mr Fab:

"Never" Ha, presumably they knew about Rock Hudson's, er, orientation. Probably an inside-showbiz joke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm
Krys O.:

Exactly.
Avatar 👻 8:19pm
Mr Fab:

Bea must have been 81 or 82 when we saw her show. She was gone in five years or so, good thing we saw her when we did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
Krys O.:

Right. I wish I'd seen that show.

(It's always rainy in Seattle, too.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
Krys O.:

Yup, I learned that from Ursula Le Guin's Lathe of Heaven.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
WR:

Just noticed that Joey Heatherton was in that Perry Como skit. Julie played Joey Heatherton earlier today and I skimmed her Wikipedia page, which mentioned she was a semi regular on the Como show.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
Austin Rich:

I love that TV hum in the background of this clip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
Krys O.:

Thanks for that info, WR. The Brenda they referred to was Brenda Lee who had performed a duet with Joey.
Avatar 👻 8:33pm
Mr Fab:

Oof, why make fake "Fawlty Towers" when American TV was always showing the real thing?
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
Austin Rich:

I was just watching Fawlty Towers clips the other day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Krys O.:

I loved this movie as a kid. Such a cast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
Webhamster Henry:

@Mr. Fab: Sanford & Son : Steptoe & Son, All in the Family: Till Death Do Us Part, just a few USA translations of British shows
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm
Krys O.:

Wilfrid Brambill's character on Steptoe & Son is thoroughly repulsive compared to the cute aspects of Redd Foxx.
Avatar 👻 8:40pm
Mr Fab:

We never saw the British origs Henry (at least, i never did), so have no idea if they were any good. But PBS was always showing the real "Fawlty Towers." So any remake was bound to disappoint.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
Webhamster Henry:

But there were only 12 Fawlties; clearly the idea could be milked further!
Avatar 👻 8:44pm
Mr Fab:

Only 12 episodes, that really is amazing. And yet the remakes didn't
even make it that far!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm
Webhamster Henry:

I ❤️ Bea's laugh!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:45pm
WR:

Brenda Lee / Heatherton duet? Sounds interesting.

Yes, I didn't see Steptoe & Son until I got a deluxe version of A Hard Day's Night which had an extra giving context to a bit they did with Wilfrid Brambell who was Steptoe.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
Austin Rich:

I was thinking about Fiddler on the Roof just the other day, too. Interesting...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Krys O.:

The film was on TCM recently. Leonard Frey was excellent. In another part of the Dinah Shore interview, Bea talked about being close friends with Frey.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Austin Rich:

12 Episodes is almost the perfect number of episodes for most shows. (I think Young Ones is only 12, too.) For some US shows, I think they should only do 10. (Or even 8.) But we never learn.
Avatar 8:53pm
Pomme d'Or:
