I think the XTC record in its original form sounds great. I think, when asked about it, Todd has just shrugged. If that's the sound of incorrect wiring, it was arguably a happy accident.

I saw some guy playing period instruments on TV or the internet, and he insisted on using catgut strings for his banjo as that is what they used in the 18th century. I guess its a variant on classical (now nylon strings) vs steel string guitar?
