Saw Leader of the Pack on Broadway back in the mid 80s after Yul Brenner had to leave King and I because he had cancer. I think that was one of the alternatives they offered but I was a kid at the time.

The Shangri-Las were my big crush when I was in middle school. And I didn't see a photo of them until years later. They actually played in Amarillo TX, where I lived, but I didn't find out early enough to figure out a way for me to go.

.. this Joe Hinton track reminds me of Jackie Wilson on "That's Why". I'm just starting to dig into this genre.. fun to hear similarities on these cool tracks! Makes me wonder who influenced who..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
doctorjazz:

Sounds like it's overloading, recorded too hot.
Avatar 11:35pm
Kris Holmes:

Jackie Wilson & Joe Hinton were pretty much at the same time but Jackie was the bigger star
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
WR:

I think the BB King is just a worn out record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm

That too, WR, lots of surface noise.

Kris Holmes:

Yes, it's pretty wrecked unfortunately
Avatar 11:37pm

Hard to find these clean, party classics
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm

Early BB had such a sharp, penetrating tone (none of that sweet stuff he played later on his guitar)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm

I remember using coins to get the records not to skip way back when I didn't know any better.
