	10:12pm northguineahills: @Richard: We've been seeing a lot of Venezuelan refugees/migrants at the homeless shelter I volunteer at. It's a fundy shelter, so, some people aren't the most welcoming, even as I show other volunteers that they have they have Temporary Protected Status, and are in the country legally, and can work, etc. I've been using my broken spanish, to make sure, once they get jobs, they can get free autonomous housing via our shelter, but the nativist sentiment here is hard to fight against.... We have a group of five guys who walked from Venezuela through Colombia, hopped a boat to Panama, walked through Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Mexico, and once granted TPS by DHS, got on a bust to FL.... (sorry about the wall of text)

Later, two friend needed a ride to a trail head in Altadena. They were going to stay over night in the foothills and drop acid. I agreed to give them a ride to the trail head. They had backpacks, so I took the box with the Chinese checkerboard out of my wagon and put it on the roof of the car. We were a few blocks from my house when I saw it fall off into the street in the rear view mirror. I pulled over and got out to retrieve it, but a cement mixer ran it over just as I was just about to pick it up. I opened the box and it was all squashed on one side. I flung it into the gutter and got back in the car. My friends said it was the funniest thing they ever saw and couldn't stop laughing. I was so pissed, I almost made them walk.

David Bowie's "Let's Dance" video got a ton of play.

It's a fundy shelter, so, some people aren't the most welcoming, even as I show other volunteers that they have they have Temporary Protected Status, and are in the country legally, and can work, etc. I've been using my broken spanish, to make sure, once they get jobs, they can get free autonomous housing via our shelter, but the nativist sentiment here is hard to fight against.... We have a group of five guys who walked from Venezuela through Colombia, hopped a boat to Panama, walked through Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Mexico, and once granted TPS by DHS, got on a bust to FL.... (sorry about the wall of text)

Later, two friend needed a ride to a trail head in Altadena. They were going to stay over night in the foothills and drop acid. I agreed to give them a ride to the trail head. They had backpacks, so I took the box with the Chinese checkerboard out of my wagon and put it on the roof of the car. We were a few blocks from my house when I saw it fall off into the street in the rear view mirror. I pulled over and got out to retrieve it, but a cement mixer ran it over just as I was just about to pick it up. I opened the box and it was all squashed on one side. I flung it into the gutter and got back in the car. My friends said it was the funniest thing they ever saw and couldn't stop laughing. I was so pissed, I almost made them walk.
