Had to have one of our finches put down last night. My wife had folded back the cover we put over them at night and didn't push it back from the room door far enough. I opened the door, the cover caught on it, and the cage crashed to the floor. The bird was so tiny (14 grams) and injured to the point that the vet said there was nothing we could do. The other bird in the cage survived unscathed, fortunately.

Thanks everyone. Julie, we'll see how she does. We had two females and three males, but we had to keep them in separate parts of the house because the females kept laying eggs when they heard the guys chirping. It was one of the females we had to put down, so we don't really know what's best. The one that's left puts eggs out so frequently that she doesn't take good care of herself, so we likely need to keep here where she's at.

Julie, you'll remember I was talking the auto show on Sunday during EB. The one thing I hesitated to mention that sort of put a damper on the festivities was that a couple of the attendees driving an old Ford pickup, IIRC, decided to take advantage of the moment by sporting a "Trump in 2024" banner on top of the flatbed running back and forth across the access road by the hotel. Ugh!

Anne Clark's something of a cult artist in Germany, I guess you could say that. When I lived there, she toured there (late 2011? early 2012?) and I had snowball's chance in hell scoring a ticket. To my memory her shows in cities like Berlin (where I lived) and Bremen (had a friend there plus I had lived there earlier) were all sold out.

There's a house just down the street from us who's residents are clearly ardent "45ers". They have one of those "Don't Tread On Me" flags displayed prominently over the front porch, and a toilet seat with a picture of Biden in the center and a sign below it with the letters "FJB", on top of a pallet painted to supposedly look like the American flag (but just barely resembles it). Another house not far from there along the main route has his whole property decked out in red, white, and blue star lights and all manner of gaudy 'patriotic" decorations. I could just tell those folks are also "45ers" just from that audacious display.

The Finnish summer genuinely ended in August. Its last day was already cold. Now it's like 49F outside and 54F indoors. Heating is not on, and won't be for some time, imagine, I spent 600 euros a month (Around Jan/Feb this year) paying for electricity because all the heaters are electrical ones, and yet my place was rather freezing. The word is it is going to be worse, the government tells us to save electricity, well I wonder how horrible the winter's gonna be with the price of electricity going up up up.

@5:18 Yvang: Dire Straits is not certainly the first (1985), plus I think it was mixed down to analog tape if I remember right. Donald Fagen was 1982, Madonna and the Scorpions were both released in 1984. Brothers in Arms was among the first cd's though. I was puzzled when I saw the first cd's in 1984, like in my small village in the middle of nowhere it was VERY MODERN - and they were not for sale for long, nobody had the players.

According to this: https://kodakdigitizing.com/blogs/news/what-were-the-first-albums-released-on-cd ...Claudio Arrau's 1979 recital of Chopin waltzes, issued in '82, was the first CD title, but ABBA's '82 release of their Visitors album was the first "popular" title.
