Caught about half an hour of rain as we neared Jersey City, but once I could see the Verrazono in the distance, I knew it was going to move on past us. Rounded the battery with as little terror as I've experienced, and then once we were in the East River, wind and current whisked us home. K8 had beer waiting for us on land. Pretty great! gorp: there was radio chatter about an injured dolphin, but I was too busy to switch channels for the details and figure out where it was. Otherwise, no cetaceous sightings!

We could have probably been back in nine exactly, but we really took it easy once we cleared the Williamsburg Bridge and just let the current do the work. Slack to ebb was at 10 at Hell Gate, so that took us into the Harlem. We stopped for lunch for about half an hour at the Columbia dock at Muscota Marsh and then rode the ebb out into the Hudson. We crossed Spuyten Duyvil just before 1 and were at Pier 96 (56th St.) by 4 for quick break. Down to the Battery from there, and slack to flood was at about 5, which we could sure feel. The flood was already well underway in the East River, so we had the current and a tailwind. TDK60, I waved up toward the Cloisters just in case you were there!

	8:57am Brainiac from Neuron 3: We're going to need this soon. Asteroids! They're out there. A NASA spacecraft will deliberately slam into an asteroid Monday, and it's all in the name of planetary protection. The DART mission, or the Double Asteroid Redirection Test, will crash into the space rock at 7:14 p.m. ET after launching 10 months ago. The spacecraft will attempt to affect the motion of an asteroid in space. A live stream of images captured by the spacecraft will be available on NASA's website beginning at 6 p.m. ET. The mission is heading for Dimorphos, a small moon orbiting the near-Earth asteroid Didymos. The asteroid system poses no threat to Earth, NASA officials have said, making it a perfect target to test out a kinetic impact -- which may be needed if an asteroid is ever on track to hit Earth.

Caught about half an hour of rain as we neared Jersey City, but once I could see the Verrazono in the distance, I knew it was going to move on past us. Rounded the battery with as little terror as I've experienced, and then once we were in the East River, wind and current whisked us home. K8 had beer waiting for us on land. Pretty great! gorp: there was radio chatter about an injured dolphin, but I was too busy to switch channels for the details and figure out where it was. Otherwise, no cetaceous sightings!

We could have probably been back in nine exactly, but we really took it easy once we cleared the Williamsburg Bridge and just let the current do the work. Slack to ebb was at 10 at Hell Gate, so that took us into the Harlem. We stopped for lunch for about half an hour at the Columbia dock at Muscota Marsh and then rode the ebb out into the Hudson. We crossed Spuyten Duyvil just before 1 and were at Pier 96 (56th St.) by 4 for quick break. Down to the Battery from there, and slack to flood was at about 5, which we could sure feel. The flood was already well underway in the East River, so we had the current and a tailwind. TDK60, I waved up toward the Cloisters just in case you were there!

A NASA spacecraft will deliberately slam into an asteroid Monday, and it's all in the name of planetary protection. The DART mission, or the Double Asteroid Redirection Test, will crash into the space rock at 7:14 p.m. ET after launching 10 months ago. The spacecraft will attempt to affect the motion of an asteroid in space. A live stream of images captured by the spacecraft will be available on NASA's website beginning at 6 p.m. ET. The mission is heading for Dimorphos, a small moon orbiting the near-Earth asteroid Didymos. The asteroid system poses no threat to Earth, NASA officials have said, making it a perfect target to test out a kinetic impact -- which may be needed if an asteroid is ever on track to hit Earth.
