Destroit, surely you remember the Natalie Merchant-era 10,000 Maniacs? Several very mainstream/MTV hits. In any case, this is that band after Natalie went solo and John Lombardo, a founding member (& really brilliant songwriter/bandleader, it turns out) who had left right before they hit big, returned with his duet partner Mary Ramsey, who has been “the New Natalie” for at least 18 years by now.
  10:04pm
Carmichael:

Scott Miller and I were social friends. We played in competing bands in Davis, and my good friend played keys in Game Theory. He was a bit of a poser on stage, but the nicest guy on earth otherwise.

Caught up on in the moment, I almost clicked the star on a U2 song ;)
  10:13pm
ron-ji:

My last bit Re John Lombardo : I moved to Buffalo right when the Maniacs formed, and they remain the only bar band I have ever seen that covered both Eno and the Andrews Sisters (circa 1982). The lead singer (Natalie) was the least interesting thing about the band, because THEY sounded GREAT. One of the 3(?) guitarists played fantastic Frippertronics through most songs. They lost all that when John left, and I lost interest in the band—until this anniversary show/tour, which was phenomenal.

Great set tonight—at least the parts I have caught in the parts of the house where FMU has been playing, because I just discovered that the speaker in the bedroom was tuned to KTRU, which was the college station at Rice in the 70s-00s but has somehow transformed itself into Houston’s answer to FMU. Always worth checking out, although because of this audio snafu I had to listen to death metal when I could have been hearing Coolio with all the cool kids over here.

Wow thank you Therese for playing that version Stevie Nicks "For What It's Worth"--- one can turn it upside down and still be blown away. People of now, with social media, creating some kind of "Behind the Music" narrative and thinking, that it must turn true. . .NO. Each human life is unique and it doesn't follow some trite narrative. FACE IT.
